Demos of the tracks on LTW are on emusic.com's server, but they aren't
linked to on the site. I just successfully downloaded 28 seconds of
Operators are Standing By, and haven't attempted any others yet, but
here's how this works:

http://www.emusic.com/c1589b85aec99011/demo/(####)/(anything you want -
doesn't matter).mp3

the #### part is what tells it which file you want. For the other
albums, they seemed to average out to a difference of 3, but sometimes
4, 5, or 6, so its a bit of trial and error work.

"Operators" sounds like its just a higher quality recording of the DAS
Online one to me, so the others are probably the same thing. I'm gonna
try to get the rest now. When I finish, I'll post the complete list.

Wow, that's fantastic! How the heck did you figure this out?

http://www.emusic.com/c1589b85aec99011/demo/9121/DrinkingDemo.mp3

is Drinking, I suppose... what a great sounding song!

http://www.emusic.com/c1589b85aec99011/demo/9124/NinaDemo.mp3

is a little... um.. different than I expected, though. Most of the other
tracks are *exactly* the same as the Dial-a-Song ones... I was hoping they'd
be revamped at least a little. And the quality definitely isn't up to CD
album standards. But it still makes me very very happy, and I'll still buy
all the full versions of the tracks when released.

believe. Drinking is:

and it's still cool!

Does anyone else think that On Earth My Nina sounds like it could be

The blurb for this song at theymightbegiants.com doesn't mention the fact that it's
a FS hidden track. Just calls it a "DAS favorite" or something like that. Do they
even KNOW it's a hidden track? J/k.

I was a little disappointed to hear it's at least very similar, if not identical,
to the FS track, too.

Okay then,

Okay, at least the first 30 seconds of this sounds exactly the same as on
Factory Showroom? Is the point of this to distribute the song to the poor saps
who don't know about it, or bought the tape version? Seems a little redundant.
Oh well.

Yes! A great big round of applause to you!

I really want this thing to
>be
>released! What on earth is taking them so long? Gah!

I have no idea.
But i think I know why the URL directories are in threes. One is for the MP3
demo, the number after it is for the Real Audio demo (which apparently they
don't have for TMBG's tracks), and the one before it is for the FULL SONG. Give
it a try. Just add 1 to each of the listed directory numbers - 9086 for the
first one for instance, and your Real Player will start up and give you a 'not
found' error. If you try the number before the MP3 demo (9084 for example),
you'll get an 'access denied' message from the server - the full track.

So, they have the tracks. Why oh why won't they release them?!!
If they don't get moving, the publicity of being the 'first major artist to
release an MP3 only album' is going to go to someone else.

Public Enemy.
I posted this a few threads back:
"Public Enemy started selling its new album over the Internet last week to
fight what the hip-hop group says is the stifling power of big music companies.
With the release of "There's a Poison Goin On" through music Web site Atomic

offer an entire album for download."

Ah, I was wondering if that's who you were going to say. TMBG still has a
chance, then. Public Enemy's album is *not* MP3 only - they're offering it in
the standard CD and tape formats, as well as another type of audio file that I
haven't heard of.

The title of 'first MP3-only album by a major artist' is still up for grabs.

absolutely -- i heard an interview with Them talking about the song, and
Flans mentioned that it was a hidden track on FS. Incidentally he
mentioned that some fan had come up to them and asked why they changed
the lyrics from "kill our parents" to "tell our parents" and Linnell
said, "uh, cos my mom's going to listen to it?" funny funny ;)

Is there anyone out here who's willing to lend a guy some rare singles?
No, really!

I'm making my own Giants compilation, an unofficial Superfueled Freaksicle.
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to track down a couple of things I need. One
thing I'm really after is the Sampla-Delic Remix of Your Racist Friend. Ideally
I want to buy or borrow a copy of the Don't Let's Start CD that has it. I think
it's a UK issue, and it has a robot on the cover.
That's all I need for disc 1 of this comp.
I'm a little more short of what I need for disc 2, which is:

Istanbul 12"

The Guitar UK CD single - I already have the domestic CD; I need the UK one for
an edit and the Williamsburg Extended Mix(which may be on the domestic, but I
won't know until I compare!)

Sleeping In The Flowers promo - for an edit

S-E-X-X-Y promos - more specifically, any CD with Tee's Radio Mix and/or Tee's
Freeze Mix

I'd prefer to buy or borrow the original, not download an MP3 or get a tape
copy. I'm going for the highest quality possible, and I also need to scan each
cover to make a booklet.

Is anyone able and willing to help me out?

You might have better luck asking for a NG's spare kidney than for
one of their rare TMBG CD's. Ebay auctions these for outrageous
prices. www.gemm.com might have some of this stuff at not-so-
outrageous prices. The TMBG Visual Discography is at:
http://members.xoom.com/theymightbe/index.html
It has most of all the TMBG covers, maybe this guy has higher quality
scans than what's on his page.

As an aside, I own what I believe to be most all of the Elektra bsides,
including all the SEXXY remixes and Istanbul remixes. Some of
these are from mp3s, but what the hell, it's better than paying $20
for that single w/ the ultra-rare remix of one song.

BTW, I wanna ask, what do people think is the best
way to compile the Elektra bside album? I was
planning on chronological order, by placing the
bsides and remixes in the order of release,
approximately.
It seems ProphetM is going for bsides on
one CD, remixes on the other. I also
thought about this option, but I wondered
if I could bear to listen to 74 straight
minutes of just remixes.
What are other people's opinions?

(Either way, I'm gonna end up w/ a sh**load of
SEXXY remixes on one CD)

Oh, I know. I've been scanning through lots of web sites in the past few days,
and i actually managed to find a couple things I had asked about.

The TMBG Visual Discography is at:

I'm going for a complete control kind of thing I guess, that's why I want to
scann them myself. It makes me feel like I've accomplished more at the end of
things if I've done it all myself. I've been scanning all my stuff at 200 dpi,
which is not incredibly high, but when you consider that they'll be shrunk down
to an inch and a quarter in the final product, it makes for a pretty darn hefty
layout file - I think it's up to MB.

That's another goal, actually. Owning the real thing is preferable from a
collector standpoint, and I hope to do that eventually, but who knows when. I
don't mind paying the money for the collectors item.

Nothing on this comp will be coming from an MP3. It's all going to be digitally
ripped to wav from CD, or recorded to wav from the turntable if a particular
track doesn't exist on CD.

Yup, that's right, with each CD in its own chronological order.

I also
>thought about this option, but I wondered

I look at it this way:
I could have two CD's with intermingled b-sides and remixes, both of which
could be somewhat tedious. I would be able to go for occassional listenings of
both.

Or, I could have one absolutely killer CD that I could listen to just as much
as any regular album, and one not-as-fabulous CD that I would pull out only
when I felt like it, or for background music.

I decided that I would most easily be able to live with option #2.

>(Either way, I'm gonna end up w/ a sh**load of

Well now, here's where I get to say something that actually isn't
mindless bullshit. Whenever I'm making a tmbg tape (for whatever
reason), I put on the songs in alphabetical order. This makes it
a long and stupidly complicated process, but I don't mind. Oh
yeah, I have to swap CDs every three minutes, but hey. It works
out well, because you end up with very cool jumps between styles
and eras without even having to think aboot it! It's great!!

Try it sometime.
