OK I guess the story here is the exact opposite of a great UK comedy
series from a few years back a news-based sitcom that was recorded very
close to transmission, permitting last-minute script tinkering to
incorporate maximum topicality. It was originally given the working
title"Dead Belgians Don't Count",but that was deemed too offensive by
C4 (Channel 4 televison), which feared - jokingly, perhaps - that it
might harm sales to Belgian TV; so it became Drop The Dead Donkey
instead, an all-purpose reference to a story bumped from the news
agenda by a more important story or time constraints"

I saw the subject line and I immediately thought of Monty Python's
"Rock Notes."

Here's the Dead Donkey bit:

"...Splitting up again to get their heads together, they reformed a
fortnight later as Heads Together, a tight little name which lasted
them through a difficult period when their drummer was suspected of
suffering from death. It turned out to be only a rumor and they became
Dead Together, then Dead Gear, which lead to Dead Donkeys, Lead
Donkeys, and the inevitable split up."
