Just a heads up:

I bought a "used" copy of Star Wars I from Amazon.com last year.

It was a pirate copy, lots of mis-spellings printed on the disk.

Amazon claimed that they were not responsible when I e-mailed them.
I did not care because the movie played fine, I was just letting them
know.

I recently purchased a copy of Photoshop CS for Macintosh, also used,
(at a considerable discount I might add!) and it was also a pirate copy.
Again, the software works just fine so I really don't give a rats ass,
but just note that when you buy used disks and/or software from
Amazon.com, Amazon is not policing it's sellers.....

You will not be able to register the software purchase for customer
support so you are on your own if you buy it. ;-)

(I'm assuming you're talking about the copy of Photoshop you bought for your
Mac.)

I think the chances are pretty slim, unless you were to tell Adobe you have
it. ;)

On the downside, though, you likely won't be able to apply an upgrade to it
unless you can find a crack that will work.

Amazon *should* care that pirated software and video are slipping
through their channels. If you were to inform Lucas of the pirated
movies and Adobe of the pirated software, they could put the pressure
on Amazon to take any complaint of pirated stuff more seriously.

The lesson here is, do not buy "used" software from Amazon.com unless
you don't care if it is pirate/bootleg copies! That's 2 for 2 now. First
a bootleg DVD, now bootleg software! This was my first purchase of
software there. I usually get it from Office Depot. New in the box!

But, Photoshop is a VERY expensive program.

Pirate copies of Photoshop are free though. If you wanted a pirate
copy, you could have downloaded the trial and cracked that.
(Note I'm not endorsing this action, just pointing out the fact)

Looking at it this way, to pay money for an illegal copy means you have
been well and truly ripped off in addition to the manufacturer.

Why should you now have to crack a program you paid good money for? I
strongly dislike people who sell pirate software.

The registration code was sent with the program.
I just cannot register it with the Adobe website if I ever want to
upgrade it.
It is functioning, but it's not much better than the 6.0 that I was
already running. :-P Just a couple of new features...

Not really worth $200.00 that I paid.

This is the primary reason why I always recommend paying for any on-line
transaction with a CC or a method funded by a CC. Paying with a CC keeps
everyone honest while giving you the extra leverage to motivate an ethically
challenged seller to make the right choices.

Everything I've bought used at Amazon, I've clicked on their "One
Click" button on the site and paid for with my credit card on fiile
there. Once I got screwed and the seller wouldn't respond, and I had
my money back within a week under their "A to Z Guarantee" plan. I
didn't even have to bother the CC company with a chargeback. I think a
blanket recommendation to avoid buying used at Amazon goes too far -
but if you do buy something used there, use the Amazon payment system
and you'll have their protection there if you need it. Sending a MO to
an Amazon seller (which is never necessary, since =all= Amazon sellers
must take Amazon payments) is similar to buying "off eBay" by sending
a WU Money Order to Romania. I'm sorry you were cheated, though.

The one who cares is Adobe. It's their software that is being pirated
and they have the muscle to do something about it.

Maybe you should've contacted the RIAA and told them you're a 12 year
old girl downloading music from that person's website .. they'd have
been on you and them quicker than the Secret Service investigating a

Doubtful. It was not an auction!

It was directly from the sales website at Amazon.com.
Flags? No, they offer the software for sale new, as well as used copies.
That is standard for all of their books, DVD's, CD's and software.

I have deleted the software from my computer and am sending the disk,
along with the seller's e-mail and headers to adobe.

As if the "support" of any software mfg ever was worth the trouble of
asking. The only reason they want you to "register" is to make
additional money by selling your name and email.

Consider seeing if you can pick up an older unregistered version on
eBay... and then upgrade. 'Course, can't guarantee it will be tons
cheaper. Worth a look into at any rate.

I bought a full, sealed boxed legit, registerable version of Photoshop
4.01 on eBay years ago for $150... and if I wanna upgrade, I can.

Of course, these days, more people are shopping on eBay than were back
then, so I don't know if the older unregistered versions are so easy
to get either.

I'm in a good mood though... I've always wanted to check out Adobe
Pagemaker... and I picked up the educational version 6.5... in box
with everything included and maybe even unregistered for $2.14 at my
local Salvation Army store. Couldn't believe it!

Anyone know if you can upgrade the educational versions?

Usually not. That's one reason they can sell those for so much less
