I read the entire article. Al Jazeera is (seems to me ) support Osama and
his terrorism...
Oh by the way, I don't read Arabic. I am only 17... I cheated... I used

wondering all afternoon what sort of reaction it was going to get, and this
thing from al Jazeera would be extremely inmteresting. I wonder what sort of
"doctoring" they think went on?

No, it only quoted a London cleric who claimed that. But it also
quoted one of the American translators who said it's true.

Nah. Al Jazeera follows a radical Free Speech rule, which leads
to the airing a lot of rumors and unsupported claims, but also to a
plurality of shown views unique in the Arab world - for example,
it is the only Arab channel making live interviews with Israelis.
It is also the only place where a liberal Arab woman can yell at
a conservative Muslim cleric in a televised debate. They also
have unveiled female moderators, so it isn't exactly to Osama's
taste... but that master of propaganda (and disciple to the CIA)
made expert use of it. Too bad the Americans shot their Kabul
office during the fall of the capital, this silly petty revenge attack
left the Arab public with pictures only from still-Taliban-held
Kandahar...

They didn't claim that themselves; they asked a London cleric-or-what
who claimed that he recognised text taken from the wedding videotape,
doubted such a 'smoing gun' would be left behind, and his final argument
was that Bin Laden swore to Mullah Omar he didn't do it.... What a
hoot...
OTOH Al-Jazeera also quoted a member of the US translator team
who said the video was genuine.

The Osama Show: Bad Disinformation, Poorly Produced
[It is bizarre that this videotape -- real or fake -- is the best
that the US Government can do after months of ignoring constant pleas
from all over the world for their "compelling evidence" of bin
Laden's guilt, all the while bombing innocent Afghans. After
initially promising the world they would produce their so-called
"evidence," they stonewalled and instead assigned the British
Government to manufacture a long document that is short on facts but
heavy on inneuendo. That is not "evidence." If this tape is
"evidence," and it's the best they've got, then they have nothing.
Far from compelling, it's not even very "credible."
On the same day they release this videotape, which we are supposed to
believe was miraculously found by the CIA in a private home in
Jalalabad, the US Government is refusing to release to the US
Congress documents on all kinds of other criminal investigations --
unrelated to bin Laden-- which were subpoenaed by a bi-partisan group
of Congressional representatives. Bush Junior has now stepped into
the role of Nixon II, invoking "executive privilege" to deny the
legislative branch of the Government information it requires to do
its job. Rep. Dan Burton, a member of the illegitimate President's
own party, has threatened to take Bush to court for contempt of
congress over this outrageous behavior.

Pentagon releases videotape of Bin Ladin about the attacks

the English translation is not accurate, confirming that he
replayed the tape fifty times while working on the translation.
The US Department of Defense has released a videotape "proving" that
Osama bin Laden was involved in the September 11 attacks on the
United States. According to the tape, which has very bad sound and
picture quality, bin Laden says he expected that only three or four
stories of the world trade centre towers in New York would be
destroyed, not expecting the complete collapse of the two towers.
In the tape, which was broadcast with muffled sound accompanied by
English translation, bin Laden said that he believed that the fire in
the plane would result in the collapse of the iron infrastructure of
the world trade center and consequently the part of the building
above where the plane crashed would collapse.
bin Laden, who seems to be speaking to his assistants, added that he
anticipated the number of "enemy" killed because of his field
experience. According to the tape, he confirmed that those who
carried out the September 11 attacks did not know the details of the
operation until they were boarding the planes they hijacked, saying
that Muhammad Atta was the one in charge of the group which carried
out the attacks.
Bin Laden said in the tape that he told his associates when the first
plane crashed into the World Trade Center in New York that they
should be patient, revealing his knowledge of other hijacked planes.
He said that he had been informed in advance of the operation's date
and that after work, he listened to the radio with his assistants.
He said that it was half past five local time in Afghanistan when he
heard news about the plane crashing into the World Trade Center tower
and he began to listen to the broadcast where the crash was announced
at the end of the bulletin.
Analysts Comment
Aljazeera hosted a number of analysts to comment on the content of
the tape which the US navy found in Afghanistan, according to
Washington. [Note: the "find" has been variously attributed to the US
Army, the Navy, the "military" and of course to the CIA, which is
operating in military drag in Afghanistan, and which is undoubtedly
the true source of this Crusade Production.--NY Transfer.]
One specialist in Islamic affairs, Hani Al Sibaei, described the
video tape as "fabricated and a scandal for the greatest democratic
country in the world."
In a telephone call with AlJazeera from London, he noted the
congratulatory wishes on the tape and bin Laden's happy expression,
and said that this segment of the tape was taken from a tape of Osama
bin Laden being congratulated on the marriage of his child to the
child of Aiman Al-Zawaheri -- an event that took place four years
ago.
The expert said that it boggles the mind that an organization like
AlQaeda would create such simple-minded videotapes and then leave
them behind in a private home. He added that bin Laden has twice
denied involvement in the attacks and said that he had sworn to
Mullah Mohamed Omar, leader of the Talban movement, that the AlQaeda
organization pledged it would not plan attacks against other
countries from inside Afghanistan.
In contrast, Christopher Ross -- a consultant hired by the US State
Department -- says that the tape is genuine and not a fabrication. In
a conversation with AlJazeera, he acknowledged he had to replay the
tape tens of times in order to hear the conversation because the
sound was so bad. He also indicated that in order to improve the
translation, he then replayed the tape another 50 times with the
translator. He confirmed that the translation is not literal, because
of the poor quality of the original tape's sound. Ross said that he
considered the tape "proof" that bin Laden had considerable knowledge
of the details of the attacks on America, and that he was shocked
when he saw bin Laden rejoicing over the attack on the buildings and
the murder of people.

BUSH INVOKES EXECUTIVE PRIVILEGE
Denies Documents Subpoenaed by Congress

WASHINGTON, Dec 13 (AP) - President Bush invoked executive privilege
for the first time Thursday to keep Congress from seeing documents of
prosecutors' decision-making in cases ranging from a decades-old
Boston murder to the Clinton-era fund-raising probe.
"I believe congressional access to these documents would be contrary
to the national interest," Bush wrote in a memo ordering Attorney
General John Ashcroft to withhold the documents from a House
investigative committee that subpoenaed them.
The decision institutes a dramatic change in the way the
administration intends to deal with Congress after years in which the
Justice Department, sometimes reluctantly, shared sensitive
investigative documents with lawmakers.
Republicans and Democrats alike excoriated the decision, suggesting
Bush was creating a "monarchy" or "imperial" presidency to keep
Congress for overseeing the executive branch and guarding against
corruption.
The Republican House committee chairman who sought the documents
raised the possibility of taking Bush to court for contempt of
Congress.
"Everyone is in agreement you guys are making a big mistake," Rep.
Dan Burton (R-Ind.), told Justice lawyers at a hearing after the
announcement. "We might be able to go to the (House) floor and take
this thing to court."
The full House, controlled by Republicans, would have to vote to find
Bush in contempt to start such a court battle.
In his memo to Ashcroft, the president explained his decision.
"Disclosure to Congress of confidential advice to the attorney
general regarding the appointment of a special counsel and
confidential recommendations to Department of Justice officials
regarding whether to bring criminal charges would inhibit the candor
necessary to the effectiveness of the deliberative process by which
the department makes prosecutorial decisions," Bush wrote.
He added, "It is my decision that you should not release these
documents or otherwise make them available to the committee. ... I
have decided to assert executive privilege."
Burton decried the decision. "This is not a monarchy," he said. "The
legislative branch has oversight responsibility to make sure there is
no corruption in the executive branch."
Rep. Henry Waxman, the top Democrat on the committee, who frequently
sparred with Burton during Clinton era investigations, agreed with
his sometimes nemesis.
"An imperial presidency or an imperial justice department conflicts
with the democratic principles of our nation," Waxman said.
The decision immediately affects a subpoena from Burton's House
Government Reform Committee for documents related to the FBI's
handling of mob informants in Boston dating to the 1960s.
More importantly, it sets a new policy in the works for months in
which the administration will resist lawmakers' requests to view
prosecutorial decision-making documents that have been routinely
turned over to Congress in years past.
Executive privilege is a doctrine recognized by the courts that
ensures presidents can get candid advice in private without fear of
its becoming public.
The privilege, however, is best known for the unsuccessful attempts
by former Presidents Nixon and Clinton to keep evidence secret during
impeachment investigations.
White House counsel Alberto Gonzales recommended Bush invoke the
privilege earlier this fall.
While invoking the privilege, Bush instructed Ashcroft to have the
Justice Department "remain willing to work informally with the
committee to provide such information as it can, consistent with
these instructions and without violating the constitutional doctrine
of separation of powers."
Burton's committee for months has been seeking Justice Department
memos about prosecutors' decisions in cases involving the handling of
mob informants in Boston, Democratic fund raising, a former Clinton
White House official and a former federal drug enforcement agent.
The committee subpoenaed Ashcroft, demanding those documents in the
fall and scheduled a hearing Thursday to examine the Boston case.
That case stems from revelations that Joseph Salvati of Boston spent
30 years in prison for a murder he did not commit even though the FBI
had evidence of his innocence. Salvati's conviction was overturned in
January after a judge concluded that FBI agents hid testimony that
would have cleared Salvati because they wanted to protect an
informant. Salvati had been paroled in 1997.
Several such memos were shared with Congress during both Republican
and Democratic administrations. Most recently, in the 1990s, such
documents were turned over to the Whitewater, fund-raising, pardons
and impeachment investigations by lawmakers.
But the concept of extending executive privilege to Justice
Department decisions isn't new. During the Reagan years, the
privilege was cited as the reason the department did not tell
Congress about some memos in a high-profile environmental case.
And Clinton's attorney general, Janet Reno advised Clinton in 1999
that he could invoke the privilege to keep from disclosing documents
detailing department views on 16 pardon cases.

[Note that although the US Government says this is a "transcript" the
translators admit that it is not a verbatim transcription, but a free
translation "conveys the messages and flow" of some of the
conversation. It appears, if the video is genuine, that the
photographer was very short of tape. The Osama Show begins 39 minutes
into the tape, and runs through to the end of the tape following
taped scenes of the downed US helicopter in Ghazni Province, which
was apparently shot earlier (see NY Transfer's Middle East newsfeed
of November 6 for story "Taleban Displays Wreckage of Chopper US Says
Wasn't Shot Down").
The taping continues at the beginning of the tape, so the
photographer apparently rewound and resumed, recording over whatever
was on the beginning of the tape. This is not an unusual procedure if
one is short of tape and rushing to get as much recorded as possible.
However, the strange choppy nature of the conversation indicates
edits by someone, or that the photographer simply kept turning on and
off the video camera (he must have been *very* short of tape).
The welcoming chatter, political discussion and religious quotations
are suddenly interrupted by the person identified as Osama bin Laden
making one statement that the US sees as highly significant about the
attacks. Then back goes the conversation to smalltalk and political
conversation about support in the mosques. Similarly a lot of bizarre
and superstitious talk about premonitions of buildings being blown up
by planes is interrupted by several very coherent and incriminating
statements by the bin Laden character. Much of the context appears
to have been left out of the translation, possibly due to all this
"inaudible" sound, possibly because the US Government told the
translators to excise any specific references to the travel
arrangements of the crippled visitor from Saudi Arabia, or possibly
because the camera person did not record large hunks of the

TRANSCRIPT OF USAMA BIN LADEN VIDEO TAPE
[(Transcript and annotations independently prepared by George
Michael, translator, Diplomatic Language Services; and Dr. Kassem M.

International Studies, Johns Hopkins University. They collaborated on
their translation and compared it with translations done by the U.S.
government for consistency. There were no inconsistencies in the

In mid-November, Usama Bin Laden spoke to a room of supporters,
possibly in Qandahar, Afghanistan. These comments were video taped
with the knowledge of Bin Laden and all present.
Note: The tape is approximately one hour long and contains three
different segments: an original taping of a visit by some people to
the site of the downed U.S. helicopter in Ghazni province
(approximately 12 minutes long); and two segments documenting a
courtesy visit by Bin Laden and his lieutenants to an unidentified
Shaykh, who appears crippled from the waist down. The visit
apparently takes place at a guesthouse in Qandahar. The sequence of
the events is reversed on the tape-the end of his visit is in the
beginning of the tape with the helicopter site visit in the middle
and the start of the Usama bin Laden visit beginning approximately 39
minutes into the tape. The tape is transcribed below according to
the proper sequence of events.

transcript of every word spoken during the meeting, but does convey
the messages and information flow.]

us hope and we thank Allah for you. We don't want to take much of

are supporting us more, even those ones who did not support us in the
past, support us more now. I did not want to take that much of your
time. We praise Allah, we praise Allah. We came from Kabul. We were
very pleased to visit. May Allah bless you both at home and the
camp. We asked the driver to take us, it was a night with a full
moon, thanks be to Allah. Believe me it is not in the country side.
The elderly...everybody praises what you did, the great action you
did, which was first and foremost by the grace of Allah. This is the
guidance of Allah and the blessed fruit of jihad.
UBL: Thanks to Allah. What is the stand of the Mosques there (in
Saudi Arabia)?
Shaykh: Honestly, they are very positive. Shaykh Al-Bahrani
(phonetic) gave a good sermon in his class after the sunset prayers.
It was videotaped and I was supposed to carry it with me, but
unfortunately, I had to leave immediately.
UBL: The day of the events?
Shaykh: At the exact time of the attack on America, precisely at the
time. He (Bahrani) gave a very impressive sermon. Thanks be to
Allah for his blessings. He (Bahrani) was the first one to write at
war time. I visited him twice in Al-Qasim.
UBL: Thanks be to Allah.
Shaykh: This is what I asked from Allah. He (Bahrani) told the
youth: "You are asking for martyrdom and wonder where you should go
(for martyrdom)?" Allah was inciting them to go. I asked Allah to
grant me to witness the truth in front of the unjust ruler. We ask
Allah to protect him and give him the martyrdom, after he issued the
first fatwa. He was detained for interrogation, as you know. When
he was called in and asked to sign, he told them, "don't waste my
time, I have another fatwa. If you want me, I can sign both at the
same time."
UBL: Thanks be to Allah.
Shaykh: His position is really very encouraging. When I paid him the
first visit about a year and half ago, he asked me, "How is Shaykh
Bin-Ladin?" He sends you his special regards. As far as Shaykh
Sulayman `Ulwan is concerned, he gave a beautiful fatwa, may Allah
bless him. Miraculously, I heard it on the Quran radio station. It
was strange because he (`Ulwan) sacrificed his position, which is
equivalent to a director. It was transcribed word-by-word. The
brothers listened to it in detail. I briefly heard it before the
noon prayers. He (`Ulwan) said this was jihad and those people were
not innocent people (World Trade Center and Pentagon victims). He
swore to Allah. This was transmitted to Shaykh Sulayman Al ((`Umar))
Allah bless him.
UBL: What about Shaykh Al-((Rayan))?
Shaykh: Honestly, I did not meet with him. My movements were truly
limited.
UBL: Allah bless you. You are welcome.
Shaykh: (Describing the trip to the meeting) They smuggled us and
then I thought that we would be in different caves inside the
mountains so I was surprised at the guest house and that it is very
clean and comfortable. Thanks be to Allah, we also learned that this
location is safe, by Allah's blessings. The place is clean and we
are very comfortable.
UBL: (...Inaudible...) when people see a strong horse and a weak
horse, by nature, they will like the strong horse. This is only one
goal; those who want people to worship the lord of the people,
without following that doctrine, will be following the doctrine of
Muhammad, peace be upon him.
(UBL quotes several short and incomplete Hadith verses, as follows):
"I was ordered to fight the people until they say there is no god but
Allah, and his prophet Muhammad."
"Some people may ask: why do you want to fight us?"
"There is an association between those who say: I believe in one god
and Muhammad is his prophet, and those who don't (...inaudible...)
"Those who do not follow the true fiqh. The fiqh of Muhammad, the
real fiqh. They are just accepting what is being said at face
value."
UBL: Those youth who conducted the operations did not accept any
fiqh in the popular terms, but they accepted the fiqh that the
prophet Muhammad brought. Those young men (...inaudible...) said in
deeds, in New York and Washington, speeches that overshadowed all
other speeches made everywhere else in the world. The speeches are
understood by both Arabs and non-Arabsè‹Ÿven by Chinese. It is above
all the media said. Some of them said that in Holland, at one of the
centers, the number of people who accepted Islam during the days that
followed the operations were more than the people who accepted Islam
in the last eleven years. I heard someone on Islamic radio who owns
a school in America say: "We don't have time to keep up with the
demands of those who are asking about Islamic books to learn about
Islam." This event made people think (about true Islam) which
benefited Islam greatly.
Shaykh: Hundreds of people used to doubt you and few only would
follow you until this huge event happened. Now hundreds of people
are coming out to join you. I remember a vision by Shaykh Salih
Al-((Shuaybi)). He said: "There will be a great hit and people will
go out by hundreds to Afghanistan." I asked him (Salih): "To
Afghanistan?" He replied, "Yes." According to him, the only ones who
stay behind will be the mentally impotent and the liars (hypocrites).
I remembered his saying that hundreds of people will go out to
Afghanistan. He had this vision a year ago. This event
discriminated between the different types of followers.
UBL: (...Inaudible...) we calculated in advance the number of
casualties from the enemy, who would be killed based on the position
of the tower. We calculated that the floors that would be hit would
be three or four floors. I was the most optimistic of them all.

that the fire from the gas in the plane would melt the iron structure
of the building and collapse the area where the plane hit and all the
floors above it only. This is all that we had hoped for.

UBL: We were at (...inaudible...) when the event took place. We had
notification since the previous Thursday that the event would take
place that day. We had finished our work that day and had the radio
on. It was 5:30 p.m. our time. I was sitting with Dr. Ahmad
Abu-al-((Khair)). Immediately, we heard the news that a plane had
hit the World Trade Center. We turned the radio station to the news
from Washington. The news continued and no mention of the attack
until the end. At the end of the newscast, they reported that a
plane just hit the World Trade Center.
Shaykh: Allah be praised.
UBL: After a little while, they announced that another plane had hit
the World Trade Center. The brothers who heard the news were
overjoyed by it.
Shaykh: I listened to the news and I was sitting. We didn't...we
were not thinking about anything, and all of a sudden, Allah willing,
we were talking about how come we didn't have anything, and all of a
sudden the news came and everyone was overjoyed and everyone until
the next day, in the morning, was talking about what was happening
and we stayed until four o'clock, listening to the news every time a
little bit different, everyone was very joyous and saying "Allah is
great," "Allah is great," "We are thankful to Allah," "Praise Allah."
And I was happy for the happiness of my brothers. That day the
congratulations were coming on the phone non-stop. The mother was
receiving phone calls continuously. Thank Allah. Allah is great,
praise be to Allah. (Quoting the verse from the Quran)
Shaykh: "Fight them, Allah will torture them, with your hands, he
will torture them. He will deceive them and he will give you
victory. Allah will forgive the believers, he is knowledgeable about
everything."
Shaykh: No doubt it is a clear victory. Allah has bestowed on
us...honor on us...and he will give us blessing and more victory
during this holy month of Ramadan. And this is what everyone is
hoping for. Thank Allah America came out of its caves. We hit her
the first hit and the next one will hit her with the hands of the
believers, the good believers, the strong believers. By Allah it is
a great work. Allah prepares for you a great reward for this work.
I'm sorry to speak in your presence, but it is just thoughts, just
thoughts. By Allah, who there is no god but him. I live in
happiness, happiness...I have not experienced, or felt, in a long
time. I remember, the words of Al-Rabbani, he said they made a
coalition against us in the winter with the infidels like the Turks,
and others, and some other Arabs. And they surrounded us like the
days...in the days of the prophet Muhammad. Exactly like what's
happening right now. But he comforted his followers and said, "This
is going to turn and hit them back." And it is a mercy for us. And a
blessing to us. And it will bring people back. Look how wise he
was. And Allah will give him blessing. And the day will come when
the symbols of Islam will rise up and it will be similar to the early
days of Al-Mujahedeen and Al-Ansar (similar to the early years of
Islam). And victory to those who follow Allah. Finally said, if it
is the same, like the old days, such as Abu Bakr and Othman and Ali
and others. In these days, in our times, that it will be the
greatest jihad in the history of Islam and the resistance of the

Americans saying: "If you are true men, come down here and face us."

vision, before the operation, a plane crashed into a tall building.

Sulayman ((Abu Guaith)): I was sitting with the Shaykh in a room,
then I left to go to another room where there was a TV set. The TV
broadcasted the big event. The scene was showing an Egyptian family
sitting in their living room, they exploded with joy. Do you know
when there is a soccer game and your team wins, it was the same
expression of joy. There was a subtitle that read: "In revenge for
the children of Al Aqsa', Usama Bin Ladin executes an operation
against America." So I went back to the Shaykh (meaning UBL) who was
sitting in a room with 50 to 60 people. I tried to tell him about
what I saw, but he made gesture with his hands, meaning: "I know, I
know..."
UBL: He did not know about the operation. Not everybody knew
(...inaudible...). Muhammad ((Atta)) from the Egyptian family
(meaning the Al Qa'ida Egyptian group), was in charge of the group.
Shaykh: A plane crashing into a tall building was out of anyone's
imagination. This was a great job. He was one of the pious men in

Shaykh (Referring to dreams and visions): The plane that he saw
crashing into the building was seen before by more than one person.
One of the good religious people has left everything and come here.
He told me, "I saw a vision, I was in a huge plane, long and wide. I
was carrying it on my shoulders and I walked from the road to the
desert for half a kilometer. I was dragging the plane." I listened to
him and I prayed to Allah to help him. Another person told me that
last year he saw, but I didn't understand and I told him I don't
understand. He said, "I saw people who left for jihad...and they
found themselves in New York...in Washington and New York." I said,
"What is this?" He told me the plane hit the building. That was last
year. We haven't thought much about it. But, when the incidents
happened he came to me and said, "Did you see...this is strange." I
have another man...my god...he said and swore by Allah that his wife
had seen the incident a week earlier. She saw the plane crashing
into a building...that was unbelievable, my god.
UBL: The brothers, who conducted the operation, all they knew was
that they have a martyrdom operation and we asked each of them to go
to America but they didn't know anything about the operation, not
even one letter. But they were trained and we did not reveal the
operation to them until they are there and just before they boarded
the planes.
UBL: (...inaudible...) then he said: Those who were trained to fly
didn't know the others. One group of people did not know the other
group. (...inaudible...)
(Someone in the crowd asks UBL to tell the Shaykh about the dream of
((Abu-Da'ud)).
UBL: We were at a camp of one of the brother's guards in Qandahar.
This brother belonged to the majority of the group. He came close
and told me that he saw, in a dream, a tall building in America, and
in the same dream he saw Mukhtar teaching them how to play karate.
At that point, I was worried that maybe the secret would be revealed
if everyone starts seeing it in their dream. So I closed the
subject. I told him if he sees another dream, not to tell anybody,
because people will be upset with him. (Another person's voice can be
heard recounting his dream about two planes hitting a big building).
UBL: They were overjoyed when the first plane hit the building, so I
said to them: be patient.
UBL: The difference between the first and the second plane hitting
the towers was twenty minutes. And the difference between the first
plane and the plane that hit the Pentagon was one hour.
Shaykh: They (the Americans) were terrified thinking there was a
coup.

authentic, but the translation is misleading. Other people will
believe the video to be authentic but the audio fabricated.
Without a proper scientific analysis, this tape may we be good
evidence against Bin Laden.

There are three things that appear to be constantly overlooked when
commenting on the quality of the tape and whether or not it is a fake:
One is psychological, the other two are technical.
[1] The psychological aspect is that it appears that ObL was showing

more professional equipment like the kind that professional reporters
would carry with them.
[3] Afghanistan and that part of the world uses a different television
standard than the USA does. The USA uses a standard called NTSC,
whereas Afghanistan uses a mixture of PAL (most of Europe) and SECAM
(France).

Converting back and forth between the standards inevitably results in
a degradation of the picture and to a lesser extent, the sound.
Modern digital transcoding equipment minimises this degradation but it
takes place nonetheless.

To make matters worse, there are two variants of the SECAM standard,
ordinary SECAM (developed in France) and MESECAM (The Middle Eastern
variant of SECAM).

incompatibility with Western transmissions - again a political

I am not going to speculate on how the gov't produced the tapes that
were ultimately viewed by the world, except to say that is was most
likely done on the highest-end all-digital equipment so as to preserve
as much of the original tape quality as possible. If we assume this,
then the quality of the original tape was probably pretty dismal to
start with, possible reasons being [1] crappy shooting circumstances,
[2] inexperienced/casual use of the camera, [3] the camera was most
likely not well cared for or maintained, [4] you name it.
At any rate, this tape is certainly not what would be considered
acceptable evidence in an American court, at least. But assuming it
is real, it shows ObL as every bit the "evil, soulless monster" that
prez. Bush called him.

convincing tape. I would be dubious of anything that is displayed on a
crusty old video. Do you think they would just leave something like
that laying around?
Sounds a bit suspect to me. They really needed to provide proof, and
this is just a bit to convenient to be true. If he admits it himself,
what has he got to lose? Very little. But the US has a lot to gain by
his damnation.
Of course he could just be bragging like he was claiming glory for
someone else work even if it was true!

hath its own reward. In the day of trouble, the memory of the action cometh like
a rush of the torrent, and taketh our burden away.
2. He who helpeth his fellow-creature in the hour of need, and he who helpeth
the oppressed, him will God help in the Day of Travail.
3. Who is the most favored of God? He from whom the greatest good cometh to His
creatures.
4. What actions are most excellent? To gladden the heart of a human being, to
feed the hungry, to help the afflicted, to lighten the sorrow of the sorrowful,
and to remove the wrongs of the injured.
5. Whoever is kind to His creatures, God is kind to him; therefore be kind to
man on earth, whether good or bad; and being kind to the bad, is to withold him
from badness, thus in heaven you will be treated kindly.
6. He who is not kind to God's creatures, and to his own children, God will not
be kind to him.
7. Kindness is a mark of faith: and whoever hath not kindness hath not faith.

Sayings of the Prophet Muhammad
(peace and blessings upon him)
ISLAM began as something strange, and it will become thus again, as it
was at the beginning.
Blessed, therefore, are the strangers.
(He was asked who the strangers are:)
The strangers are those who restore what the people have corrupted of
my law,
as well as those who revive what has been destroyed of it.
You will not enter paradise until you believe,
and you will not believe until you love one another.
Let me guide you to something in the doing of which you will love one
another.
Give a greeting to everyone among you.
I was delegated as a prophet to perfect moral virtues.
Good character is half of faith.
God is merciful to those who show mercy to others.
Power consists not in being able to strike another,
but in being able to control oneself when anger arises.
Honor your children and thus improve their manners.
The three best things:
to be humble amidst the vicissitudes of fortune;
to pardon when powerful;
and to be generous with no strings attached.
Whoever does not express his gratitude to people will never be
grateful to God.
The best people are those who are most useful to others.
Living among others is a cause for blessing,
while seclusion is the cause of torment.
Happy is the person who finds fault with himself
instead of finding fault with others.
From morning until night and from night until morning
keep your heart free from malice towards anyone.
A perfect Muslim is one from whose tongue and hands mankind is safe.
Islam is purity of speech and hospitality.
Every religion has a distinctive virtue
and the distinctive virtue of Islam is modesty.
Greet those whom you know and those whom you don't know.
When asked what was most excellent in a human being, he answered,
"A friendly disposition."
The best of God's servants are those who when seen remind you of God;
and the worst of God's servants are those who spread tales
to do mischief and separate friends, and look for the faults of the
good.
Whoever believes in one God and the Hereafter,
let him speak what is good or remain silent.
He is the best Muslim whose disposition is most liked by his own
family.
Respect the guest and do not inconvenience your neighbors.
The faithful are as one person.
If a man complains of a pain in his head, his whole body complains;
and if his eye complains, his whole body complains.
He is not of us who is not affectionate to the little ones
and does not respect the reputation of the old.
Truly, the farthest seat from me on the day of resurrection will be
the garrulous, those who talk glibly, and those who talk tall.
And who is it that talk tall? The vain-glorious.
God is gentle and loves gentleness.
Inscribed on the prophet's sword:
Forgive him who wrongs you; join him who cuts you off;
do good to him who does evil to you;
and speak the truth even if it be against yourself.
Whoever restrains his anger when he has the power to show it,
God will give him a great reward.
Backbiting is more grievous than adultery,
and God will not forgive the backbiter until the one wronged has
forgiven him.
Keep yourselves far from envy, because it eats up and takes away good
actions
as fire consumes and burns the wood.
What actions are most excellent?
To gladden the heart of a human being,
to feed the hungry, to help the afflicted,
to lighten the sorrow of the sorrowful, and to remove the wrongs of
the injured.

The Last Sermon of Prophet Muhammad
May the Mercy and Peace of Almighty God be upon him
This sermon was delivered on the Ninth Day of the month of Dhul-Hijjah
in
the Tenth Year of the Hijrah (i.e. the Prophet's forced migration from
Mecca
to Medina) in the 'Uranah Valley of Arafat, near Mecca.
After praising and thanking Almighty God (Arabic: Allah), the Prophet,
peace
be upon him, said:
"O People lend me an attentive ear, for I know not whether after this
year I
shall ever be amongst you again. Therefore listen to what I am saying
very
carefully and TAKE THESE WORDS TO THOSE WHO COULD NOT BE PRESENT HERE
TODAY.
O People just as you regard this month, this day and this city as
sacred, so
regard the life and property of every Muslim as a sacred trust. Return
the
goods entrusted to you to their rightful owners. Hurt no one so that
no one
may hurt you. Remember that you will indeed meet your LORD, and that
he will
indeed reckon your deeds. ALMIGHTY GOD has forbidden you to take
interest
(Arabic: riba), therefore all financial obligations involving interest
shall
henceforth be waived. Your capital is yours to keep. You will neither
inflict nor suffer any inequity. Almighty God has judged that there
shall be
no interest and that all the interest due to Abbas ibn 'Abd
al-Muttalib (the
Prophet's uncle) be waived. Every right arising out of homicide in
pre-Islamic days is henceforth waived and the first such right that I
waive
is that arising from the murder of Rabiah ibn al- Harithibn.
O men, the unbelievers indulge in tampering with the calendar in order
to
make permissible that which God forbade, and to forbid that which God
has
made permissible. With Almighty God, the months are twelve in number.
Four
of them are holy, three of these are successive and one occurs singly
between the months of Jumada and Shaban.
Beware of Satan, for the safety of your religion. He has lost all hope
of
that he will be able to lead you astray in big things, so beware of
following him in small things.
O People it is true that you have certain rights with regard to your
women,
but they also have right over you. Remember that you have taken them
as your
wives only under God's trust and with His permission. If they abide by
your
rights, then to them belong the right to be fed and clothed in
kindness.
Treat your women well and be kind to them for they are your partners
and
committed helpers. And it is your right that they do not make friends
with
anyone of whom you do not approve, as well as never to be unchaste.
O People, listen to me in ernest, worship ALMIGHTY GOD, say your five
daily
prayers fast during month of Ramadan, and give your wealth in charity
(Arabic: Zakat) and perform Hajj if you can afford to.
All of mankind comes from Adam and Eve. An Arab has no superiority
over a
non-Arab, nor does a non-Arab have any superiority over an Arab; also
a
white has no superiority over a black nor does a black have any
superiority
over a white --- except by piety and good action. Learn that every
Muslim is
a brother to every Muslim and that the Muslims constitute one
brotherhood.
Nothing shall be legitimate to a Muslim which belogs to a fellow
Muslim
unless it was given freely and willingly. Do not therefore do
injustice to
yourselves. Remember one day you will meet Almighty God and answer for
your
deeds. So beware and do not stray from the path of righteousness after
I am
gone.
O People, NO PROPHET OR MESSENGER WILL COME AFTER ME AND NO NEW FAITH
WILL
BE BORN. Reason well, therefore, O People, and understand the words
which I
convey to you. I leave behind me two things: the QUR'AN and my SUNNAH,
and
if you follow these you will never go astray.
All those who listen to me shall pass on my words to others and those
to
others again; and may the last ones understand my words better than
those
who listen to me directly. Be my witness, O GOD, that I have conveyed
Your
message to Your people."
In the name of Allah, The Compassionate, The Merciful
"When Allah created His creation, He did so while completely
independent of their obedience towards Him and of their disobedience
towards Him. No disobedience can hurt Him and no obedience can benefit
Him. Then He distributed among them their means of sustenance and
placed them on earth.
The people of taqwa on earth are those of virtue: their sppech is
correct; their garments are of moderate nature and their walk is one
of humility. They lower their gazes when they see something that Allah
has forbidden them to see and they give an ear to beneficial
knowledge. They maintain their integrity in both adversity and
prosperity.
Had it not been for the appointed time that Allah had written for them
(death), their souls would not remain an extra second in their bodies,
out of yearning for reward and fear of punishment. The Creator ranks
supreme in their eyes, so everything else becomes immaterial to them.
They are with Paradise as if they had already witnessed it and enjoyed
its presence. They are with Hell as if they have already seen it and
tasted its torment. Their hearts grieve, and their evil is
non-contagious. Their bodies are lean, their needs are few and their
souls are chaste.
They observe patience for a few days and experience everlasting
comfort. This is a profitable exchange that their Lord has made
pleasant for them. The world tempts them, but they do not succumb. It
imprisons them, but they ransomed themselves in exchange.
During the nights they stand in rows and read portions of the Quran.
They recite with proper recitation which grieves their hearts, and
drink it like medicine. If a verse of yearning comes along, they reach
for it and believe it is their destination. If an intimidating verse
comes along, they pour their hearts towards it, and believe that Hell
and its screams are in their ears. They sleep on their foreheads and
elbows (the pray so much that they sleep in these positions) and
implore Allah to deliver them.
In the day, they are tolerant and learned, kind and God-fearing. Fear
has chipped away at their bodies, as if they were arrows. Anyone
looking at them would think that they were sick. But they are not
sick. Some will say that they are confused. A great fear has made them
look like that. They are never content to do only a few actions, nor
do they ask for a great deal.
They condemn themselves, and are apprehensive about their deeds. If
one of them is called ‘pious,’ he fears what will be said
of him, and says: "I know myself better than you do. My Lord knows me
better than I do. O Allah! Do not take me to task for what they are
saying about me and make me better than they think. Forgive my sins
which they do not know about."
Their signs are that they are strong in Islam; resolute in their
softness; firm in their belief. They crave for knowledge, and are
knowledgeable with tolerance; moderate in richness; pleasant in
hunger; forbearing in distress; seeking halal; active in (pursuing)
guidance and they abhor greed.
They perform good deeds in fear (of rejection). They spend the evening
in gratitude and the morning in remembrance. They sleep in alarm and
they awake in joy. If their carnal selves make it difficult for them
to fulfil that which they dislike, they deprive themselves of that
which they like. The apple of their eyes is in what does not perish,
and their abstemiousness is in what disappears. They combine knowledge
with tolerance, and speech with action.
You will find that their hopes are realistic, their mistakes few;
their hearts humble, their selves content; their diets meagre, their
matters simple; their Deen safe-guarded, their desires killed and
their anger subdued. Goodness is expected from them, and evil is
shielded against them. If they are among the oblivious, they are
counted amongst those who remember. If they are among those who
remember, they are not wriiten among the oblivious.
They pardon those who wrong them; they provide for those who deprive
them, and meet those who severe ties with them. They are never profane
and always lenient. Their wrong-doings are almost non-existent, and
their good deeds are always present. They are resolute when the earth
quakes, steadfast in calamities and grateful in prosperity.
They are not prejudiced against those they dislike, nor do they favour
those they love. They acknowledge the truth before it appears, and do
not lose anything they are entrusted with. They do not call anyone
names, nor do they hurt their neighbours. They do not curse at the
time of difficulties, nor do they venture into falsehood.
Silence does not bother them, and if they laugh they do not raise
their voices. If they are treated with injustice, they remain patient
until Allah vindicates them. Their own selves live in toil, while
others are comfortable around them.
Their abstinence from those who stay away from them is their
exoneration (from malice). Their proximity to those who are close to
them is a means of mercy (for those who are close to them). Their
remaining aloof is not out of pride and arrogance, and their being
close is neither a ploy nor scheme."

Actually, if there is one thing that I would suspect being a fiction
of government propoganda, it's the notion that bin Ladin is an evil
genius. Wealthy, to be sure. Persistant, definitely. Clever, I
would conceed. But genius?
All of the attacks that have been attributed to him don't require any
particular genius. The simple fact of the matter is that it is
extremely difficult to defend oneself against a group that has members
who are willing to let themselves be killed (indeed, to kill
themselves) in order to acheive their goals. It's doubly hard when
the target you are defending is, quite literally, an entire country.
As for such things as the clandestine structure of Al-Qaeda, that sort
of cellular arrangement has been well known since the '20s, nor have I
been impressed with the so-called "brilliant" coordination of the
attacks of Sept. 11th. Anyone who goes to Travelocity could get
tickets on flights leaving around the same time. About the only
difficult thing would be getting the actual boxcutters on the plane,
and we have plenty of evidence that airport security was, and remains,
lax.
I'm sorry, but I really don't think that OBL is any sort of real
tactical genius, and I don't doubt that he'd be arrogant, or foolish,
enough to think that a videotape, such as this, would never reach the
public eye. After all, this is the same man, who in his own taped
propoganda, seemed to seriously believe that the Islamic world would
rally to the defense of the Taliban.
Of course, I also don't believe that anyone is going to be persuaded
by it who wasn't already persuaded of his guilt.

How should I put this? Hmmm. CRAP!
Yes. Americans are showing a lot of interest in the faith of Islam.
The reason? We are an intelligent, inquisitive people and we want to
know the truth about claims about Muslums. Does Islam demand they
kill infidels? Are they really supposed to be all sweetness and
light? So we read up on it. Don't read more into it than that; you
won't be so disappointed when we don't all convert.
