hi ppl,,

i started following an online tutorial regarding making a web page/learning to write the code etc,
and i have sorta got the hang of it at a very basic level.. (only started a few days ago)

now that i have a page made (lame as it is) i would like to know 'how does one put it onto the www'?
is my isp involved?
at the moment, the url address of my page only points to a folder on my hdd,,,,??

whats next and 'how to'.

thanks.

Either look up the website of your ISP or phone them and they will give
instructions. Basically, you need an address for the space that they
make available to you on their servers. Get yourself an FTP program like
the free FireFTP which is an extension of the Firefox browser. Once you
have the address and the FTP program, you can upload your pages.

Glossary:

FTP <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_Transfer_Protocol>

URL vs FTP <http://www.ftpplanet.com/ftpresources/basics.htm>

The home page is mostly called index.html, so if you call your home page
this and load it up to the address you are advised about, you will see
it appear in a browser.

In addition to the good information given, some isps and other web
space hosts provide an uploader for your files on the computer so that
you do not even have to learn to use ftp at first. For example, Yahoo
owns Geocities and will give people who use certain services such as
ATT/Yahoo a limited amount of space at Geocities for free. They will
even provide a bit of space to non-customers for free. They have a
file uploader. There are also tutes on how to use their Geocities
site. The downside is that they sometimes are a bit slow and put ads
on your site. However a site such as this is one way to get your first
page online without too much effort. After you get your first few
pages working, you can always upgrade to a better host.

This is a text-only newsgroup. Do not attach images or any other files.
Those of us using non-binary *newsservers* will not see the posts at
all.

Ah, but does malaria make you immune to sickle cell disease?

Is there a viral kf_dorayme going about and infecting computers. I have
a pretty good idea who the leaders of my enemies are who might be doing
this. They are not content for themselves not to play with me, they are
working to stop all the boys and girls from going anywhere near me at
the breaks.

I will just have to bring extra lollies to school and do my sudokus in
the playground if that is how it is going to be. I won't cry! I shan't!
I won't!

But warning, my lollies are going to be massive and plentiful and
everyone will see them. And more! They will hear them. I am going to get
my mummy to make lollies that play tunes, dance and sing smart remarks
in chorus. So there!

Whal, a reasonable argument could be made for the abuse suffered by those
you _can_ see you...

Beats me? It is hard to know, I suppose, who gets what or even if I am
missing posts. Perhaps posting is like praying? Is God listening to me
when I tell him what I think about His world?

Nice one. This sort of thing certainly would fit the bill of what could
be done to draw attention from kids in a playground. <g>
