Any thoughts on a workaround - some way to make the DTV receiver work?
Thanks for your help!
Consider hooking BOTH component video AND SVideo/composite to the TV
from the receiver.
No plasma here, but, I use a crummy 21inch tube with component input and
composite/SVideo inputs.
DVD player goes to receiver as component video then onto TV
DTV goes to receiver as S Video then onto TV.
When I switch the receiver to DVD, I select the component input on the TV
When I switch the receiver to DTV/VCR, I select the Video 2 input on the TV.
Yes its a bother, but it costs very little, basically the price of some
extra cables, under $50, and maybe you already have the cables lying around.
Just run the composite direct from the DTV receiver to another input
on the plasma. It is a pain to switch the TV's input when using DTV,
but not that big of a deal.

Thanks for the help...
Run everything to receiver and let it do the work of selecting which AV
equipment goes to the TV, and switch inputs on the TV to select either
component video (DVD) or composite/SVideo (DTV, VCR, game box)
Receiver mfgs are starting to recognize this problem and are providing
upconversion capabilities in the newer models. My impression is that
Yamaha has more models with this feature than most. But be aware, HD
DVD/BluRay is coming and component video out of these new DVD players
will ONLY run at 480i/p To get 720i/p or 1080i/p, the TV MUST have a
HDMI connection on it, so must the receiver (in and out) and DVD player
(in and out since many of these will also be recorders)

In any case, I'm avoiding HD DVD/Blu-Ray until the damn format war is
settled and we see what becomes of this copy protection downconversion
issue. I may be in for a long wait, but I don't mind - regular DVD is
really quite good IMHO.
