A District Attorney's Office spokeswoman said Bohana collapsed today in the
courthouse cafeteria shortly before the verdict was read, and had to be taken
to a hospital.
Prosecutors say Bohana is scheduled to be sentenced on July 20, and could
receive up to 15 years to life in prison.
Jackson's drowning in the swimming pool of Bohana's Los Angeles home was
initially ruled an accident.
Bohana allegedly told police that his girlfriend of several weeks had been
swimming laps in the early morning hours of Aug. 27, 1994 and began floundering
in the deep end of the pool. Bohana allegedly said he jumped in but was unable
to reach her, then got out to call 911.
But Jackson's three sons with ex-husband Tito Jackson disputed the coroner's
finding of accidental drowning, and filed a wrongful death civil suit against
Bohana in 1995.
They alleged that Bohana drowned Jackson in his pool during a four- hour long
fight that ended when he held her head under water. The suit alleged that
Bohana had wanted Jackson to lend him money to cover nearly $2 million in debts
and she had refused.
Her sons said Jackson was afraid of the water and would not have voluntarily
gotten into a swimming pool, and sustained 54 blunt force trauma injuries
during the struggle with Bohana.
Bohana was arrested in March 1997 after investigators reopened the case.
