Do you guys use the grapple?

If you are on a server that has grapple, do you use it for regular gameplay?
Or only if you're falling off a level?

I've been playing on a insta server with it enabled lately. Normally I don't
use it alot, except when falling. But I think I need to change that to keep
up with the regular's who do. I've seen some good moves with it.

This was one of the great changes to get used to when I moved from Q2 to
Q3...I was just getting used to playing Lithium all the time, swinging
like a madman to and fro with that red rope. I haven't played on many Q3
servers with it yet tho.

I second that. I've started using it more too, it can get you out of a tight
situation quickly, i.e. in the crossfire.

If I'm on a server that has a grapple I find another server. I've never
liked it. It's a crutch IMO.

Sure... but we should do a BFG-only RA3 match... imagine how paranoid people

Nope... Never use it... I had one time recently where I joined a FFA server
with it, and it was full of grapple monkeys. I started whoopin up, and one
guy says "Tuna, you never grapple... You DO know how to grapple don't you?"
I told him I didn't need the crutch, then they started pokin fun at me. The
next map, I handed them their asses... LOL. I said at the end of the match
"See, I don't need no ghey crutch to whoop yas." Next map, they (the two
guys pokin fun at me) both disconnected... hehe.. I shoulda done a condump,
but I never think of stuff like dat. I'm too busy being silly to worry about
showing others stupidity to a NG.

I am kinda getting tired of the RJ hehe.
I like playing on servers with armor and falling damage on.
People RJ out of necessity. The RJ monkeys sure do crater alot =)

to it, then it's hard to stop using it all the time.

Okay, here's the crutch part.. hehe... You can RJ on any Quake server. It
doesn't have to be implemented. The grapple has to be implemented. Therefore
if you are used to grappling your way out of a tight spot, you can't do it
on non-grapple servers. Therefore it's a crutch you rely on to get you out
of a tight spot. If you RJ out of a tight spot, you can do it on ANY server,
making it not as much a tool as a tactic.

Yep.. I manually RJ so I don't abuse it quite as much.. I like to use it to
get over someone quickly, or to maneuver myself in a hurry. Or, in a
tactical way (like RJ up to a higher area knowing they are waiting for you
to use a jump pad... lol). I also like falling damage on.

Been on a server mods useing the grapple. I know the syntax bind g "+hook".
The problem I am having is, when i type this command, it never works. I also
noticed the q3config file has this command. can anyone shed light on how to
use the grapple hook?
