Anyway, here's my comments of today's Pokemon, which was okay, but had an
interesting third-season end bit (Meowth Party).

Cheap laugh in the first minute when a wave hits Pikachu in the face.
When Snorlax is hungry, it's every man for himself, as seen when he tries to
eat Gloom and eats the boy's flowery headpiece. It's like it said on the MST3K
episode where they watch Final Justice, which stars Joe Don Baker, and the guys
begin singing about having to run because Joe Don's hungry during the film's
closing credits (third time I've compared Snorlax to Mitchell).
Speaking of running from a hungry Snorlax, it was a bright and silly idea to
have Ash dress as an apple to get Snorlax up the mountain.
So Meowth built his own Gundam suit. Big deal. Even if it can stop Pikachu,
it's still unpowerful to Snorlax and his physique, which includes a head that
doesn't feel damage and a Blob-like stomach. Still, it is still a Gundam suit.
(Points if you know what I mean when I say Gundam.)
The Meowth Party bit was interesting. It combines CGI animation (probably using
Pokemon Stadium as a model) as well as Parappa animation (Jessie and James as
2-D cut-outs). One question: is this the same animation that they use in the
Meowth Party in Japan?

By the way, speaking of the Meowth Party: was I just dreaming, or did I see
Kireahana (sp?) amongst all the Pokemon dancing on the Meowth Party?

I'm continuing my practice of watching one, recording the other (or in the
case of today, recording both at the same time! :-)

Yes. I have a RealVideo of the original Japanese version as shown as the end
credits from the Japanese series. (Downloaded off of Caterpie's Forest site.)
One curious thing about the Japanese version: The scenes that show the text
"Meowth's Party" in the background are exactly the same as seen here in the
US - they used Meowth's U.S. name instead of Nyaasu. An interesting instance
of a foreign translation of a character also becoming well-known in the
country where he originated from. :-)

Ding. You're correct. 5 points for you.

I thought that giant mobile suits were generally called "mecha", and
that a gundam is a special type of mecha.
You would be correct.

Jen, AFAIK anyway, I hate mecha..
There were two kirehana dancing next to meowth.

While it was amusing, it seemed somewhat out of character. Generally, it's Team
Rocket that is able to produce costumes from nowhere and improvises equipment well.
Team Rocket's plot this time also seemed a little bit of character, it was actually
intelligent.

Like others have pointed out in this thread, you are incorrect. The term for
piloted robots in anime is mecha. Even in the Gundam series, a Gundam is only one
type of mecha and there are other types.

Most of the CGI for the pokemon was the models used for Pokemon Stadium. The only
time it could be discerned that it was not was a sequence with J&J on guitar
wherein the Weezing model definitely wasn't from Stadium.
As was noted there was a Bellossom in the video (might as well start using the
confirmed names to get used to it), but only one. I'm figuring that no one
mentioned Togepi's CGI model because it was obvious enough.
What I thought was rather strange was one part when Meowth was going up the wall of
the blank white cube. As he's going up the wall on the right side, his face
becomes the 2D anime face for a moment, for no apparent reason. I wonder why
exactly that was done.

To me, Meowth Party looked like the animators showing off - showing what
they could do for the sake of showing what they could do. That's the
only explanation I have for that bit, and for 3D's dominance in this bit
of a usually 2D (anime) show.
Ash: Snack?! What snack?
Misty: *You're* the snack. Better...run.
LOVED that. ^_^

Yes, it's the same animation. I never did like Parappa style, though.
It's cute, but it's sort of an acquired taste for me.
