hello,

i have recently completed both the jade falcon and the wolf portions
of the game. i'm sure i didn't do all that hot, because my ending
rank in both was only nova colonel, and my honor could have definately
been alot higher. so anyway, my question is, are there any different
ending movies if you do better? or are the two i have seen the only
ones? thanks for any response, and onward to the ghost bears legacy.

The ending in MW2 is always the same, regardless of your rank or point
score.
Regarding rank, the highest is Khan and gives you the pleasure of
seeing "the Keshik is your" at the end of the final trial. The rank is
exclusively dictated by your trial of position results. To become a
Khan, you have to fight and win both challenges in all the trials. The
point score is just for your self satisfaction (or despair) and has no
bearing on your rank.

In GBL, it is a bit different: if you have completed all the missions
without dying once, you are offered the chance to compete in trials of
bloodname, after having seen the finale.

Nah...they end the same reguardless of rank.

Nope, the mechs used in trials of position are always the same. The
first time I played the game through, I struggled on easy and never beat
the second star in trials of positions. In the last Jade Falcon clan
trial, I was in a Firemoth. Then, when I played through the game on Hard,
I entered the last falcon trial with a chance to become Kahn, I had a
much better point score but I was still in a Firemoth.

Nope. For Trials of Position you end up using the last mech used (or
selected) in the Mech Lab. I always play on hard and I usually end up
in a Timber Wolf.

Uh, no. I have never, ever, on a bet, during an insane moment
strapped myself into a Kit Fox. Guess what I drove in Trial 3 for the
Falcons?

The ToP mechs are set.

Same here (I got the Kit Fox there also) and they want you to take on a
Summoner, and if you feel cocky you can try to take on a Warhawk. Needless to
say I was happy (almost dead, took three noghts) just killing the Summoner,
which must mean that I am worst at this game then I thought. Oh well as long
as I still suck the game should never get boring.

Kit Foxes are GREAT!!!! You just gotta love something with the TOTAL
armor of the entire mech that equals the armor factor of a leg for one of
the heavies! Test you might, roll your fate!

Flashheart,

I remember cussing that damn little Firemoth as well. The last
Trial of Position lasted almost an half an hour with that under
powered mech.

We must be playing different games!
The mechs you get for the trials of position are most definitely set in my DOS MW2.
If you have a way to change the crappy mechs that get handed down for the Falcon trials (the
Wolf trials are much easier), I 'd like to hear it.

For your reference:

Falcon trial #1: Stormcrow 2 LLAS, 3 MLAS, 1 SLAS
first against: 1 Hellbringer
then: 1 Timberwolf
Falcon trial #2: Nova (Jump jets) 7 MLAS, 2 MPLAS, 1 SLAS
first against: 1 Warhammer
then: 1 Gargoyle
Falcon trial #3: Kitfox 1 LLAS, 1 SPLAS, 1 xAC5 (20 ammo), 1 SSRM4 (200 ammo)
first against: 1 Summoner
then: 1 Warhawk
Falcon trial #4: Firemoth 5 MLAS, 2 SLAS
first against: 1 Marauder
then: 1 Direwolf

Wolf trial #1 : Stormcrow 4 MPLAS, 1 SLAS, 2 SSRM6 (90 each), 1 LRM20 (240)
first against: 2 Firemoth
then: 1 Gargoyle (with damaged legs) and 1 Stormcrow
Wolf trial #2 : Maddog 2 LPLAS, 2 MPLAS, 2 LRM20 (120 each)
first against: 2 Jenners
then: 1 Jenner and 1 Rifleman
Wolf trial #3 : Summoner (Jump jets) 2 LLAS, 2 MLAS, 3 SPLAS, 1 SLAS,
1 MGUN (200), 1 LRM20 (360)
first against: 1 Stormcrow and 1 Maddog
then: 2 gargoyles
Wolf trial #4 : Timberwolf 2 LLAS, 2 MLAS, 1 SLAS, 1 MPLAS,
2 MGUN (200 each), 2 LRM20 (120 each)
first against: 1 Warhawk and 1 Warhammer
then: 1 Warhammer and 2 Marauders (all three with damaged legs)

You might want to try fooling around with that. The ToP mechs really

aren't set. If that has been your experience then I won't second guess
you but, I've always been able to get teh mech I want by planning ahead
and using the mechlab.

Well bad spelling or not. I plan to play the Wolf and Falcon missions
again to prove to myself that what I remember isn't the onset of
senility. Once I go through the missions I will post the mechs that I
used and in which mission.

N'uh uh. In the 3rd Jade Falcon trial of position, I had to use a
Nova, and I've NEVER used a Nova in any regular mission (hate the
bloody things, no turret).

Seems that we are running different somethings, I run a Maurader IIC
and when I get to the Trial any Trial The Mech Lab is not there.
Says the Clans chose what you drive. Last Mech in the Lab was
a well built Maurader but something else, usually weak comes
out of the DropShip. Hard to get two levels most times. Settle for
one or get to old to be Commander.

Um......yes, I agree that the ToP mechs seem to be
pre-arranged......is that what I drove? That light-weight little
puckerbutt thing? The one that had a LL & a ML on the right and a
AC20 & SSRM6 on the left? The one I had to use against a Summoner and
a Warhawk?!!!??!!

It took me about a dozen trys and a lot of cussing ;>, before I beat
(barely, I was in the red big time!) them, and I had to hide in the
cave and use it for cover!

No, I dont think that makes me a lousy pilot......I just dont belive
in taking a DUNE BUGGY up against 2 tanks!!

1 UA20 dosent help THAT much! (I never use the damn thing anyway!)

Paul
I wonder.....if one mech kicks another between the legs, will the
pilot feel it in a significant way? ;>

That is trial 3. It is actually much worse than that: what you get is a
primary configuration Kit Fox (a whooping 30 tons and incapable of any
meaningful torso-twist), which comes with 1 ER large laser, 1 small pulse
laser, 1 SSRM-4 and an LB-5X auto cannon (only 20 rounds) and no jump
jets. And its armor factor is at 77 out of a maximum of 105!

But wait till the last trial! you'll get a 20 ton Firemoth alternate
config D, with just a bit above half the maximum armor factor (38 out of
69) to face a Marauder and a Dire Wolf. At least it can torso-twist, run
fast and deal out decent alpha strikes with its bunch of lasers (but it
can't take more than a couple of hits before falling to pieces)!

Personally I found trial 3 a bit harder than trial 4, but it could just be
my distaste for torso-impaired mechs. They are both cruel jokes, and I bow
to anyone who can beat them regularly with the difficulty set to medium or
(heaven forbid) high.

That would be an Uller/Kit Fox, and it actually should be an LL and SPL on the
left arm and an LB/5-X and SSRM-4 on the right.

> - Pierre -though my method of dealing with these two trials may seem a un-fun, the best
way is to group-fire everything (w/the exception of srms on the kit fox) and
hide behind a wall until the enemy approaches. when it comes around the
wall, run quickly into it. since the enemy mechs' tonnage and class so for
outranks yours, your kitfox/jenner should land right between its arms. keep
speed at max and stay there. the enemy should now shoot most of its
weapons out of its arms and past you. group fire everything until it dies.
repeat for all enemy mechs. works over 2/3 of the time (more if you're
good).
