Am coming back into HP fanficdom after a while away, & wondered if
anyone could recommend some good recent Snape fanfics, as all the good
Snape authors I know seem to be in hiding or no longer writing.

I've found a lot of utter drivel out there, but little or no good recent
Snapefic, & was wondering if anyone knew whether any of the Snapefic
written in the last 10 months or so is good to outstanding.

A caveat, though: I really, really hate Snape romance fics. In fact I
completely and totally loathe them. I will tolerate well-written
in-character slash at a pinch, but am far more interested in fics that
follow any of the standard genre clichés, & that have both a plot and a
grasp of characterisation.

Urk. Have realised that I'm starting to sound like Snape myself. Help!

Oh! I'd like this, too.

Yowtch. Well, I could tolerate them, but I'm not a big fan of het fics,
anyway.

Slytherin Rising on Schnoogle.com JL Matthews
has a nice snape characterization and the series
is in progress. Snape is a major player although
not the focus.

Have you seen Pawn to Queen on www.witchfics.org
(If I remember the URL right...) There hasn't been that
recent an update on that one.

My friend is currently writing a Snape fic. Basically, it's how he becomes the
man he is (*drools*). Anyway, she has a few parts together and asked if I'd
pass it around. If you're interested in reading it, let me know and I'll send
it your way.

Heh. I remember both of these from way back in 2001. They may be
towards the better end of the het romances, but they're still basically
romance territory, even Slytherin Rising, I'm afraid.

Authors I'm looking for are people of the calibre of Earthwalk & Blaise,
who have done serious examinations of the nature of darkness, rather
than into how sexy Alan Rickman is.

Er, think I need to keep taking the tablets.

While I am about to climb the walls in my impatience to read the
next HP book, I dare not go near the fanfic. I don't really want to
wade through fifty dozen Ron/Hermione romances, Harry/Hermione romances,
Harry/McGonagall romances, Ginny/McGonagall romances, Winky/Ginny
romances, Winky/Dobby romances, Slytherin house orgy tales, etc., in
order to find the handful of interesting tales that may be out there.

John

Yeah, that's part of why I don't tend to read HP fanfic. I'm not a
'shipper of anyone but Ron and Hermione, and I'd rather read general fic,
anyway.
