The following is AN OFFICIAL CONFURENCE ANNOUNCEMENT (but not about what you'd
expect)

At last Saturday's CF Staff Meeting, Mark Merlino announced that after CF10, he
will no longer act as ConFurence's Director and Co-chair. Rodney O'Reily also
announced that although very interested in continuing to participate with
ConFurence, he will no longer be able to Co-Chair after CF10.

Immediately following, it was decided by unanimous vote of all staff members
present that CF11 will *STILL* happen, and that pre-registration for next year's
con will be available on Sunday at CF10, even if we aren't sure by then when and
where it will be held. Both Mark and Rodney are very interested in continuing
to participate as CF Staff members, but they will not be the one's running it
next year.

So then the question comes up: "Who will run ConFurence 11?"

Well, it seems I didn't duck fast enough. :) Myself, along with Z'sanene
Klinkler ("Zee") have been elected Co-chairpersons for CF11. Z'sanene and
myself still have a lot to work out on the structure of the con, but I feel
confortable stating at this time that I will be CF11's Director.

Some of you know me well... but I'm sure that some of you are saying "Darrel
Who?"...

I'm not an artist... I've never had anything published... I'm a computer network
engineer by trade... and I've only been on FurryMuck ("Jym_Chago") over the last
few years to check for messages, read the board, and idle in the west corner of
the Park. Most importantly, though, I am a long-time furry fan and a friend of
the fandom. I have been to every ConFurence, including #0, and have sponsored
and/or worked staff at most of them.

There are still MANY decisions to make regarding CF11, and I will be spending a
LOT of time with Mark and Rodney working out the "changing of the guard" over
the next week. I'm not in charge yet... we still have CF10 to put on, and MArk
and Rodney are the chiefs here. Finances have to be my primary concern, but
Hotel relationships already in place, keeping track of members, dealers,
artists, and guests so that no one gets lost in the tranisition, and deciding
major issues about when, where, and how CF11 will happen is going to be on my
mind throughout this entire weekend.

I tend to think of myself as a fair and honest person. Yes, I consider myself
to be a "Burned Fur" but not in the radical sense that the moniker(sp?) has come
to be used. I consider myself a BF because I remember when Furry Fandom meant
enjoying the comic books, animation, stories, and art involving animal
characters, and there wasn't any sexual baggage attatched to the term "Furry".
I remember when I could tell someone that I was a furry fan, and not have them
go "Ee-ew, you're one of *those*!"

I'm no prude.. I can enjoy good erotic art, but only if it is actually good art
that just happens to be erotic... Erotica for the sake of being erotic *is*
pornography, and although there is quite a market for that material, I am not
going to break any laws to make sure it's made available. However, I will *not*
try to repress anyone who sells that type of material.

I don't want to make any enemies... I've got a hard enough job ahead of me
without becoming a marked man, but I did feel that I had to let everyone know my
opinions right up front. Yes, I do have some strong opinions, but I also try to
be open-minded enough to see other points of view. I sincerely believe that in
this respect, I posses exactly what ConFurence needs to survive.

This whole matter with a "poisoned pen-letter" being sent to the Town & Country
Hotel is not the first time this has happened. ConFurence does currently have
some enemies. My job will be not only to make peace with the people who dislike
CF, but also to keep from making *any* new enemies. This may be an impossible
task, as you can never satisfy everyone, but as I am definitely going to give it
my best shot!

Hmm... I didn't start this post intending for it to sound like an acceptance
speech, but reading back on the above, that'swhat it sounds like... so I guess
this is the part where I thank everyone for their support, and that I am honored
that I was considered for this position. I especially want to thank the current
Co-chair of ConFurence, Rodney (Vinson Mink) O'Reiley for nominating me for this
position. I'd like to say thank you to all the support among my fellow
CFStaffers, as evidenced by the voting... and to everyone who I have consulted
with over the last few years about the direction of the fandom (you should know
who you are...) It was good to bounce a few ideas off of you to see the
reactions.

Now... All of you can continue preparing for CF10 (except for those unfortunate
few who can't make it), and I will see you there!

Please, although I will gladly lend an ear to everyone's opinions (and I'm sure
they will be a-plenty) I am also trying hard right now to prepare for CF10. I
may not be as responsive right now as I will be once this convention is under
way... I may not even have time to check back here until after CF10 is over, so
if you feel compelled to say something now, CC it to my personal addy as well.
You can also come visit me during CF10 at the Information Booth, and I will be
happy to discuss matters with you.

I fully stand behind Darrel as the new CF chair, I know he has what it
takes to run a good fair convention that'll be fun and enjoyable.

It isn't the name, it's the BEHAVIOR and the unstated values.
(but, this is a whole can of worms that I'll leave alone).

Absolutely. Honesty *is* the best policy.

I am willing to give anybody a chance, and since I don't know you
from Adam, my best wishes on your success. Quite a task you've chosen.

I thought not.

Congratulations, Darrel and Zee! And condolences. =};-3

It couldn't happen to a nicer guy. As for Rod and Mark's stepping
down, I will state that while Ol' Yiffbottom and I have had our
disagreements in the past [GADS have we had disagreements], I wish to
extend a warm hand [no joy buzzer] to them both for helping bring
things to this point. Maybe in the future they can get to actually
_see_ one of these things...

If you say so - I wish him luck with CF.

Well, I wish you luck, and I'll certainly try to attend. I'd have come
to this one, if it hadn't been moved from its convenient January date
to fall dead on top of Easter :P (hint hint hint)

If you are willing to work hard to put on a good con that people can attend, have a
good time, and not feel unfocomfortable about attending it, You will have nothing
but support from this Cat in Black...

Anyone who gets an endorsement from the Groat-man is officially okay by me!

Wow! O_O Changes coming thru real soon. This marks a new
direction, me thinks.

Well ... congratulations! You're the type of sensible and
reasonable guy the con and the fandom needs. Let's see you guys
turn it around and come out punching. Good luck to both of you.
^_^

I don't know what I can do to support you Darrel, but if I can
be of any assistance to you, please feel free to ask me. It shall be
done... somehow.

Phew... if you read my message 'the missed chance' or something I've post
earlier... and then this one... I'd say not everything is lost of furrydom. :)
