The passing has been announced of Jean 'Moebius' Giraud, 73, one of
the great French comicbook artists.
No, scratch that -- one of the all-time great comicbook artists, of
any country and any of age, period.
He also contributed to the designs of such movies as 'Alien' and 'The
Fifth Element.

"Easily one of the most respected and popular illustrators of graphic
fiction of all time."

As for his 'furry' characters, well, if nothing else there's a wise
little talking pterodactyl-creature who plays a major role in 'The
Incal', the epic series of space-opera graphic novels he created with
the eccentric film director Alejandro Jodorowsky (which later
influenced 'The Fifth Element').
I actually got the great man's autograph at a comic convention in the
early 90s, too. Years later, I stupidly sold the 2 comics he'd
signed... :-(
