What does an aspiring action hero mouse do in the face of boredom? He
goes out looking for a little excitement, of course.

"CHEVALIER: The Queen's Mouseketeer" by writer/creator Darryl Hughes and
artist Monique MacNaughton. It's a fabled fairy tale of enor-mouse
proportions.

You probably don't know this since you're new here and seem to be posting
to Usenet through WebTV, but Usenet is an ancient pre-web discussion
system, distributed by a network of Internet servers. That means it's
unmoderated, with no way to block deliberately disruptive posters,
especially now that the system is winding down. The only surprise is that
alt.fan.furry never got raided by troublemakers from outside the fandom
throughout its two decades (although there was plenty of internal
strife), and they only appear now after the group has shut down. So no
worry, and there were only one or two of us watching the group anyway,
mostly to point newcomers elsewhere. Peace.

So, you're actively encouraging n00bs to post elsewhere...all the while
pissing and moaning about the "lack of active posters to AFF".

Fucking hilarious.

Sure: fire up the cancelbot and hope that all the peers recieving the
control:cancel messages honor those...still...at this late day. Or (and
I know this is a long shot and a bit of a stretch for people stuck in a
terminal case of GROUPTHINK) you could man up, use a kilfile and have
either the discipline or patience to wait until the "tr0llz" wander
away, as they predictably will. ADHD & all that :)

But hey! I'm not an actual "furry" but a WERE, and we see things a
little differently. Now where the fuck is Wanderer?

A tool is no good if it isn't used. We have the means and brunt skulls
require blunt instruments, and since blunt skulls are involved, I shall
enslave them in the name of my cone heritage.

I'll admit my patience has been worn thin from being on other groups
where we're not allowed to take the shot when it's sorely needed. Even
if I wouldn't have normally, suddenly not even having the option adds a
certain tension. The T-shirt definition of stress and all that.

For a were though, you aren't exactly showing a lot of pack loyalty.

Ok, I'll bite. Here's my take on the whole oddly territorial feelings
the regs have for a newsgroup: its daft. Newsclients (most if not all)
have filters built in so theres no need to read anything you dont want to :)
The sole attraction of web forums is the ability to moderate. This
ability opens up the problem of Groupthink becoming the norm. For
independent free-thinkers such as myself, that makes such forums quite
unattractive. Sheep flock together. Wolves *work* together, but they
also argue & fight.

Under ordinary circumstances for ordinary dick posts and even most
random trollings, I actually agree with you. But, two things, first,
it's an unnecessary imposition and incredibly inefficient. Why should
hundreds of people in theory each have to go out of their way to make
those individual killfiles when one person with one action can do the
job for them? Second, There are precious few rules as it is but they're
still breaking them. I shouldn't have to put up with that or take my own
action in the first place. It's the principal of the thing.

It is kind of funny when you watch it. Back in the day, everyone here
was clambering for moderation. Now you see the mayhem ensuing on FA and
the like due to the the staff now it's "Moderation! Horrible, horrible
moderation!"

You need to watch more Animal Planet. Rival packs do not just sit back
and ignore territorial incursions.

Uh huh. So create your own walled garden and quit pissing & moaning
already. Protip: alt.config newgroup request for AFF-moderated.

I dont look at Fur Affinity. Again: its a web forum. Too many gen
X,Y,Zers who have never experienced a real hardship but are quite
satisfied to listen to themselves whine endlessly. I dont have time for
pussies.

Sounds like one of those oddly territorial feelings to me. And it was
pretty obvious from the context you were talking about internecine
disputes. That said, I don't recall seeing you doing your turn guarding
the den are bringing in a lot of meat.
