Quite a lot of material this month in addition to the usual; in
particular, two impressive hardbacks from Fantagraphics and a new
volume of Dungeon from NBM. Also the zombie glut is worse than ever,
and an unusual number of manga series come to an end. Most were short-
lived compared to Sgt. Frog's 21 volumes, but Hikaru no Go (non-
anthro) ends at 23.

FANTAGRAPHICS (http://www.fantagraphicsbooks.com/)
FEB111040 Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse vol. 1: Race to Death Valley
hc, 10.5"x8.5", 260p, b&w with 50+ pages in color $29.99
by Floyd Gottfredson with essays and stuff by others
'Today everyone knows Mickey Mouse as the cheerful ambassador of all
things Disney. But back in the 1930s, Mickey gained fame as a rough-
and-tumble, two-fisted epic hero whose greatest feats of derring-do
took place in his daily comic strip, written and drawn by one of the
greatest cartoonists of the 20th century -- Floyd Gottfredson.
Gottfredson's Mickey Mouse was a rip-roaring serial: the most popular
cartoon-based comic of its time, a trendsetting adventure continuity
aimed at both kids and grown-ups, and the foundation on which all
later Disney comics grew. But the whole strip has never been
comprehensively collected in English -- until now!
Fantagraphics Books is proud to bring this classic Disney creation to
a 21st century audience in its entirety, starting from the strip's
1930 launch. The premiere volume features a dozen different adventures
starring Mickey, his gal Minnie and her Uncle Mortimer, his pals
Horace Horsecollar and Butch, the villainous Pegleg Pete, and the
mysterious and shrouded Fox.'

FEB111042 Congress of the Animals hc, 7.25"x9.75", 104pg, b&w
$19.99
by Jim Woodring
'In the same format as the acclaimed Weathercraft, Jim Woodring's
second full-length original graphic novel thrusts Frank back into the
spotlight, as the newly homeless anthropomorph is forced to leave The
Unifactor. Spectacular visuals abound, including two-page spreads to
die for.' My pick for top item in the catalog. Highly recommendedest.

PAGE 296
NBM
FEB111104 Dungeon Monstres vol. 4: Night of the Ladykiller GN
by Joann Sfar & Lewis Trondheim and J-E. Vermot-Desroches &Yoann
sc, 6"x9", 96pg, color $14.99
'Vulture sorcerer Horus, a ladykiller? Who knew? Yet, he is accused of
impregnating a slew of women. The second story takes a much lighter
tone starring Grogro the big always hungry goofball seen in many
stories before, especially in the Parade series. Here, he's the hero,
or at least tries to be, on a mission to fix a mess with a bunch of
beer brewers.' Recommended like everything in the series. The
decidedly grimmer vol. 3 is offered again.

PAGE 310
TOKYOPOP
FEB111157 Sgt. Frog vol. 21 sc, 5"x7", 192pg, b&w $10.99
by Mine Yoshizaki
'FINAL VOLUME! He phoned home...but the mothership is screening its
calls.'

PAGE 325
YEN PRESS (http://yenpress.us/)
FEB111221 Laon vol. 5 sc, 192pg, b&w $11.99
by YoungBin Kim and Hyun You
'When the police discover Laon naked and hungry in the street, how
could they know that she is actually a nine-tailed fox? Or at least
she would be if she hadn't lost her tails in a bet with Queen Mago.
Now Laon is on a crusade to recover her missing appendages, if other
spiritual forces don't find them first!'

===================================================
And now a few non-comic items. I skip toys and statues as always, but
books and games are fair game.

PAGE 336
HUMOR
FEB111296 The Meowmorphosis sc, 6"x9", 320pg $12.95
by Franz Kafka and Cook Coleridge
'Meet Gregor Samsa, a humble young man who works as a fabric salesman
to support his parents and sister. His life goes strangely awry when
he wakes up late for work and discovers that, inexplicably, he is now
a man-sized baby kitten. His family freaks out: Yes, their son is OMG
sooo cute, but what good is cute when there are bills to pay? And how
can Gregor be so selfish as to devote all his attention to a scrap of
ribbon?' Text, not comic.
