Uh, Cefalexin is the generic version . . .

There are known side-effects. They may be serious enough in this case
to justify prescribing an alternative. I wouldn't blame your vet for
using what appears to be a standard treatment and an effective drug,
though.

Seriously though, as it happens, it's not like it isn't known that this
drug has some deleterious side effects, and that's just for humans:

That's about par for the course really. If one pays attention to the
side effects listed for many advertised medicines lately, it often seems
the cure is worse than the disease.
