I've gotta second that. A friend called me around 7:30 this morning and
told me to turn on the news. I would not have believed the story had I
not seen it on CNN. I couldn't have believed that the world trade towers
could have been totally collapsed. I've called around and everyone I
know is watching. I've got to go to work in about 90 minutes and I don't
know how I'm going to handle it today. We've always been so lucky in the
US, we've never had anything like this happen before. I'm really afraid
that it's not over yet....there are still planes not accounted for last
I heard.

I truly hope and pray for the best for everyone involved...those who are
in danger now and the families and friends of those who are dead or
unaccounted for.

Prayers from Canada.

Many parts of Ottawa are shut down, all our airports (across most of
Canada) are down except to allow US citizens and overseas flights to
have safe landing here.

I just got word from my partner on projects, Mark Moore. He actually lives
fairly close there but he and his family are okay.

Speaking to Art Caldweld/ARC on the phone right now. He's 45
blocks down from WTC, but is alright.

I wish I could. In Portland, OR, they're actually turning donors away because
they can't handle the traffic. They're telling people to wait and donate next
week because they'll still need it.

I'm still waiting to see if anyone has heard from Smrgol yet. I can't find his
email address. If anyone has heard from him, please let me know.

Spotted a post from him in a.l.f. at 2:45pm. He didn't say anything
about himself so I assume he's okay.

Yep I've heard from him *grin*

I work up in South Norwalk CT, so was about 45 miles north of it all.

I did see it from the bridge on my way home *shudder*

Thanks for the concern.

(Toolfox raises a semi-confused paw)

I don't work in Manhattan; I'm about 20 miles from Ground Zero.

I didn't know what was happening until PixyVixy called me at work to
let me know that her office was closing, and what should she do?

Well...that's not worded fairly. She was concerned about me. I sold my
car the previous night while waiting for the new one to arrive. The
assumption that public transportation would be a bit of a mess is an
understatement.

I was able to get as far as her house, where we got some dinner before
she drove me home.

Incidentally, her dad has taken this as a personal insult. He was in
construction before retirement.

High-rise construction.

He was one of the foremen in charge of World Trade 7 -- the 47-story
one that burned all day before collapsing in the late afternoon.

The building that housed the NY Emergency Response office...

Having grown up under the flight path for Runways 22L and 22R (when
the 747s passed over our house, you could watch the doors open and the
landing gear deploy), it sure is quiet tonight.

Its also kinda strange that the only aircraft engines one hears are
far and few between.

They have a distinctive "military" aspect to their runble.

I could probably ramble on about a few other things, but I think I'll
collect my thoughts first.

I saw a post from Margaret Petrie on the YERF newsgroup. She was in
the city when the crashes happened, but is all right.

For all of those who have written with concern, I am safe here in
Japan and am far enough away from any military occupation to be overly
concerned about my physical safety. The university here has taken
precautions and travel for international students is restricted to
within our prefecture.

My love and thoughts are with those at home. Please take care of
yourselves and just be safe.

I got e-mail from Joe Strike today, and he's okay, though he tells
me his son was stuck in Jersey when they shut down the bridges
and tunnels. It may be a little bit before he's back on-line.
