New Zappa/Holdsworth

The Zappa Family Trust (ZFT) and the Official Allan Holdwsorth (OAH)
are extraordinarily pleased to announce the upcoming release of
"Tabular Rasa", a collection of Frank Zappa synclavier works featuring
Allan Holdsworth and Chad Wackerman.
"Tabular Rasa" was only just completed at the Utilitiy Muffin Research
Kitchen (UMRK) in 2011. "In 2009, we excavated these vault tapes that
were labelled "Allan/Chad, " expains Zappa Vaultmeister Joe Travers.
"On first sight, I thought these were recordings of [Allan] Zavod and
Chad [Wackerman], but imagine my surprise -and relief- to hear Jazz
From Hell-era synclavier music as a lauchpad for Allan Holdsworth to
take some amazing solos on his SynthAxe and guitar. I knew Frank
admired Allan a great deal and he'd been over to the house, but we had
no idea he had been recording with Frank."

"Last year, we gave Allan the opportunity to listen to the tapes, and
on a couple of pieces, he re-recorded his parts; otherwise, we think
the rest of the music is from 1986. We've been rehearsing with Allan as
a special guest at some upcoming ZPZ shows. We hope to play "The Girl
in the Platinum Dress"-a fast paced waltz that we listened carefully to
and realized was based on "The Girl in the Magnesium Dress". There is
also a gorgeous variation of "Watermelon in Easter Hay" that Frank
orchestrated for the synclavier with Allan playing the lead. It's
jaw-dropping."
