WASHINGTON, DC (Rueters) -- In
a special ceremony in the Rose Garden
today, the Smithsonian Institution finally
will get the finger it long deserves.

Ed Conrad will give Wayne Clough, its
Secretary, his middle finger which proves
beyond all doubt that man is as old as coal.
<
"Nobody likes getting a middle finger,
especially from other motorists, but we
here at the Smithsonian are delighted
and we're going to enjoy it very much,"
Clough probably will say in a prepared
statement.

The petrified middle finger was found
between anthracite coal veins in NE
Pennsylvania, along with a petrified toe
which Ed soon will give to his good
friend Stephen Hawking.
