Mine was Grand Funk Railroad at Jack Murphy Stadium, San Diego, 1971.
This wasn't the quartet of "American Band" fame, this was a power trio
who got no airplay, whose sound literally made your fillings rattle. It
was the loudest thing I had ever heard in my life.
Back in 76 my brother took me to see Black Oak Arkansas when I visited him
during my vacation to Yankton, So. Dakota. I really didn't know who they were
and the only song I knew was "Jim Dandy", but I was excited just the same - MY
FIRST CONCERT!
They are still my favorite band and I've seen them so many times since then
that I've lost count.

Foghat (wow my age is showing). I don't think they were just a "local" band
but us Californians, we think that eveyone knows all about us ::smiles::

Bachman-Turner Overdrive Springfield Illinois, about Jan 1975. If I
remember correctly,
(which isnt easy) the concert was at a skating rink, and there was no
seating. Everyone
stood and wandered around. Saw some pretty amazing things there.
The show was good , too.
Mine wasn't even in the 70's...the first concert I went to see was
"Beatlemania". Hmm...think that was the 2nd one, as well... Never really
was one for going to concerts. And now, hardly any come here anymore.

I mentioned in another post going to a Kansas concert in '79 (or then again,
was it '78?) where the guy next to me offered me a jay. That waws my first,
both going to a rock concert and seeing people casually smoking pot. Beaver
Cleaver here obviously didn't get out much either.

I saw Foghat in '75 at the Scope in Norfolk, VA. That was one of the
best concerts I have ever attended. The lead guitarist (forget name)
tore that slide and wahwah UP... :-)
I can identify with the ears ringing. I saw Ted Nugent several times in the
late 70s, and it usually took two to three days for my hearing to be back to
normal.

Foghat, awesome! I love those ol' 70s southern type bands. Even if they
weren't southern but sounded like them. Guitarists who look like Randy
Johnson playing Firebirds!
For me it was Electric Light Orchestra, April 1976, Montreal Forum. I
can't recall who the opening act was (gee, I wonder why? Duhhh. Probably
it wasn't anyone really good, if it had been I'd have remembered it,
stoned or not).

I saw ELO once and was blown away. We had all assumed that there was no
way they would get the lush sound of their albums in a live performance.
Boy, were we wrong!
BTW, their opening act for this concert was a virtual unknown named
Robert Palmer.

Both my lil sister and I attended our first concert together in 1986...
Huey Lewis and the News at the Summit in Houston. We had won the tickets
from a local radio station (93Q, before it went C/W) and were SO excited
that we were going to be able to stay out late and not have our parents
sitting behind us. Of course, it _was_ Huey Lewis after all; my parents
must have felt we would be safe from all drugs... which we were. One of my
sister's schoolmates and her sister came along with us and we just
screamed/sang our heads off... we all wanted Johnny to play his guitar
right to us! lol Went to school the next day and got into trouble with my
choir director... I'd screamed the voice right out of me and he was _not_
happy about it, using me as an example for the rest of the class as how not
to go to concerts and yell your head off. Embarrassing? Naaaah, I had a
great time at the show so I didn't care what that guy said or did.

I recall an actual violinist as well as a fellow playing cello or viola.
IIRC, there was also a keyboard player. The reason I recall the violin
is because he did a 5 minute solo, feeding the sound through an Echoplex
and a phase shifter. :-)
speaking of concerts- I'm so ashamed to admit it, but my friend dragged me
to a MILLI VANILLI concert! I can't even believe it!
Also- saw Adam Ant at a free concert once, and (this actually happened) he
was doing ok until the record he was lipsincing to SKIPPED! It was so
funny- people started laughing and he actually ran off the stage in mid-song
and refused to come back on! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!
-Saw Blue Oyster Cult last year at a local bar and they ROCKED! They had so
much energy and sounded really great- I'd love to see them again. I wonder
how they were in the 70s?
-Judy
How in the world could Milli Vanilli put on a concert, anyway? Wouldn't the
lip synching be a little more obvious, not to mention their actual lack of
musical talent?
That must've been quite a show...

I saw BOC many times back in the 70s, and just saw them a year or so ago at
a local club. As near as I can remember, they sounded exactly the same.
They are one of the few bands I've seen over the years whose live sound is
almost identical to their albums. It was a real trip getting to stand 7-8
feet in front of them, after seeing them years before in a crowd of 8,000 to
10,000 people!

Hammersmith Odeon, London.
David Bowie.
Ziggy Stardust's farewell concert.
What a start.
