Egg
> 37. favorite joke?
The Atlanta Braves and Atlanta Falcons were sharing the Georgia Dome for a
practice session. Bobby Cox walked up to Dan Reeves and says "you know
baseball players have got to be the dumbest jocks in the world. Watch this."
Cox calls over Javey Lopez and says "Javy, go buy me a Mercedes Benz.
Here's a quarter." And tosses Javy a quarter. Javy says "Ok coach" and
takes off running.
Cox says "See what I mean?"
Dan Reeves says "That's nothing. Football players are even dumber jocks.
Watch this." Reeves calls over Jamal Anderson and says "Jamal. Go look in
my office and see if I'm there." Jamal says "Ok coach" and takes off
running. Reeves and Cox just shake their heads.
A few minutes later Javy and Jamal run into each other in a corredor. Javy
says "Something must be wrong with Bobby Cox today. He told me the craziest
thing. He gave me a quarter and told me to go buy him a Mercedes Benz. And
he didn't even tell me what color he wanted."
Jamal says "That's weird but I think Dan Reeves is even crazier. He told me
to go to his office and see if he was there. Can you believe that? And he
had a cell phone in his hand he could have called and checked for himself."
My second favorite joke
An auburn football player goes in a travel agency which has an office
overlooking a river. He says "I saw the sign for all expense paid cruise
for $100 and I want one." The travel agent says ok give me $100." The
Auburn player slaps $100 on the table. The travel agent walks behind him,
picks up a baseball bat and hits him in the head knocking the player out.
He ties his hands and feet with a cord and throws him out the back door into
the river.
A few minutes later an Alabama football player enters the travel agency
asking for the $100 cruise. He pays his money, gets knocked out, tied up
and thrown in the river too.
About an hour later the Auburn and Alabama football players have floated a
ways down the river and wake up floating next to each other. The Auburn
player asks "You think they are going to server dinner on this cruise?"
The Alabama player answers, "They didn't last year."

>18. A moment of deep contentment?
I have no idea why, but one day in Summer 1985, I was working on the loading
dock of a Pizitz department store, and my friend William and I left to go
deliver some furniture...he filled up the van and went inside to pay for the
gas while I bought a Cherry Coke and sat outside and drank it...while I was
sitting there, waiting for him, in the parking lot of the Rainbow City Union
76, my arm hanging
the window, a beautiful monarch butterfly landed on my finger, and sat there a
good ten minutes...just stayed there. I chased butterflies all through my
childhood but never ever caught one, and this one just lit on me...it was still
there when William got into the truck and he was just as overwhelmed as I was
(and he is not easily impressed with anything). I had to shake it off my
finger so we could leave. That would be it for deep contentment, an otherwise
simple moment that stuck with me.
>19. Where were you when Reagan got shot?
I was at a quiz bowl tournament and we had just won the only game of the day,
when someone ran in and told us someone tried to shoot Reagan. While I was
watching CNN we got the word Reagan had actually been hit, and a female team
member held onto my shoulder when she heard the news.

I had to do a story on it...I was watching in a jury room at a courthouse,
along with a
group of unassigned jurors
>21. Where were you when Neil Armstrong walked on the moon?
I was at the home of some friends of the family, it happened on Rook night. We
got to stay up late and spent the night there. I was five and I even walked
out on their back patio to see if I could see the astronauts by looking at the
moon with my naked eye.

>15. A memorably sad moment?
Growing apart from one of my oldest and closest friends. She and I had so
much in common and had some great wild times together! Then she met this
guy and overnight alienated all of her friends, including myself, even
though I tried to stick it out longer than any of her other friends. She
became a different person almost right away, and almost took on the
personality of her significant other, condescending and pretentious. I was
going through a very messy breakup at the time and a typical "night out"
with her would now consist of watching her and her boyfriend (now husband)
bask in their undying love, almost rubbing it in, really nice. After awhile
I just lost my will to try and even salvage any sort of remaining
friendship, but I miss tremendously the person she once was.
>16. A memorably happy moment?
I can't think of just one, most of my life is just one big happy moment

say the majority of my life is a happy moment!
>17. A memorably angry moment?
I don't get angry very often, but I remember a few years ago being very
upset when I got screwed over for a promotion at work and the person who got
it worked there for a FRACTION of the time that I worked there!!! And when
I asked why I didn't get the promotion they basically told me "because
you're 23, and she's 40" GRRRRR!!!

Peoples Choice
>> 42. Hee Haw or the Lawrence Welk Show?
Tie
1. Mr. Roper - bacause Norman Fell is hilarious.
2. Rev. Jim Ignatowski - I love everyone's comments, but Buddy, I
never thought of you as a Rev. Jim.
3. Death Wish - because the 70s were edgier, and not quite as mellow,
as we sometimes like to thoink that they were, and this was a crowd
please.
4. Kansas - because Styx gave us "Mr. Roboto" and I haven't forgiven
them for this.
5. "Bat out of Hell" - because it was so over the top and it had Phil
Rizzuto to boot
6. "We Are the World" because we actually sang this when I graduated
college
7. punks - because at their very best, they had a great sense of humor,
albeit one which wanted "to destroy the passerby" (J. Rotten) and wanted
"a riot of my own" (J. Strummer). Anyway, I really believe that punk was
a revolutionary socio-cultural movement, the effects of which are still
being felt.
The hippies and the goths did have a certain charm all their own,
though.
8. Black Sabbath - because even though I saw a young Van Halen steal
the show when opening for them in 1978, Sab gave us such great
songs as "Paranoid," "Sweet Leaf," "War Pigs," "Zero the Hero," "Faries
Wear Boots," etc., etc., Plus they're from Birmingham, UK, an old
decaying factory town, which I've been told by a reliable source is
similar to my town of Jersey City
9. Yes - because I like their early sound.
10. Vinnie Barbarino - because no one quite said the word "what?" and
made it so funny. Plus, Welcome Back Kotter is, apparently, a reason
Quentin Tarantino cast Travolta in Pulp Fiction, one of my favorite 90s
movies.
11. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre - because, how can you not love chainswe
wielding cannibal families in the backwood of Texas. Billy, I'm
surprised you haven't seen this.
12. Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman - because it really pushed the envelope
13. "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy" - because, it was easier to accept Rod
Stewart "going disco" than it was the Stones, lol
14. high school faction - I gravitated between no faction, to the
nerds/arty types, to the druggie/metal crowd, and I believed that
combination of experiences/influences contributed to who I am today.
15. sad moment - flying down to Florida after my dad had a stroke (from
which he never recovered) and being present at his side when the priest
came in and did the last rites. I had to leave the hospital immediately,
go outside where I sat by a tree and just cried. The moment hit me hard.
16. happy moment - hooking up with my old buddies Frankie and Paul this
past year, after not seeing them for a long while.
17. angry moment - I was angry when our house was burglarized 15 years
ago.
18. deep contentment - after successfully defending my dissertation a
year and a half ago. My committee sent me out of the room, called me
back in a few minutes later, and then congratulated me. It was a deeply
satisfying moment.
19. when Reagan got shot - I was working at my dad's auto parts shop
20. when the OJ verdict was announced - I was standing among a crowd of
students at Boston U., in the packed student union, looking at various
TV monitors. When they were about to announce the verdict, a hush fell
over the room. Then the verdict was read. Most people in the room
groaned, but some cheered.
21. when Neil Armstrong walked on the moon - I was 7 and it was the
summer, and we were on vacation at the Jersey shore, staying in a
bungalo complex. There was only one TV in the complex, and so filled in
the room and witnessed it. I remember who static filled the TV screen
was.
22. country to visit - New Zealand
23. historical event to witness - The French Revolution
24. Barbarians - because I don't think they were as bad as they've been
made out to be. Plus, I suspect that I had a few ancestors among the
Celts.
25. ancient Athenians - because they gave us Socrates, Plato, and many
other great ancient cultural heros.
26. Menscheviks - because it's fun to speculate what the course of
history might have been had the "moderates" held power
26. Neantherthals - because, well, because I tend to cheer for the
underdogs. Plus, like with the Barbarians, these guys have suffered with
an undeserved bad rep for a very long time.
27. Galileo - because science has proved him right.
28. The Yippies - because of Abbie Hoffman and his idealism.
29. east coast rappers - bacause of Run-DMC, Grandmaster Flash, Public
Enemy, Boogie Down Productions, KRS-One, The Wu Tang Clan, The Jungle
Brothers, De La Soul, and many others. Plus, because hip hop was
birthed in the "South Bronx, Sou-South Bronx" (a song I just heard
yesterday from somebody's boom box).
30. Coen Brothers - because of their cinematic genius. I was just
rewatching Barton Fink the other day and loving it.
31. Spike Lee - I'm a Spike Lee fan
32. Martin Scorsese - my cinematic God!
33. Robert DeNiro - if Scorsese is God, then I guess DeNiro is his
Jesus.
34. Willem Dafoe - because Scorsese had him play Jesus, plus because of
Shadow of the Vampire, Platoon, Light Sleeper, Born on the Fourth of
July, Wild at Heart, and To Live and Die in L.A. Can this guy pick em or
what?
35. When the millenium began - last weekend
36. the chicken, presumably (calling Charles Darwin! You're wanted in
alt.culture.us.1970s)
37. favorite joke - I'm terrible at remembering jokes, but there is one
that I remember. It's somewhat political:
A little boy one day asks his dad, "daddy, what is government?"
The dad replies; think of it this was son, your mom takes care of you
and your little brother. Here at home, she's the government. Since she
takes care of you, you are "the people."
The son asks, "then, what are you daddy?"
The father replies: well, since I work and bring home money for all of
us, I'm "big business." And our maid - she's the "working class."
the son then asked: "what about the baby?" The father replied, "he's the
future."
That night, the boy woke up to the sound of his baby brother crying. He
checked on the baby, who needed a diaper change. He went into his
parents' bedroom, where he tried to wake his mom, but she was in a deep
sleep. His dad was not there. So he went to the maid's room, and found
his dad in bed with the maid, moving up and down on top of her.
The next day, the father asked the son if he remembered what he was told
the day before. The boy replied "yes,as the government sleeps when the
people's needs are ignored. The future is in deep shit. And big business
is screwing the working class."

42. the Lawrence Welk Show - because its completely surreal
43. Gumby - because it had the best claymation characters
42. Monopoly - because whenever we used to got visit Atlantic City

Christmas Day 1975. My pet raccoon (my dad is a lumberjack and brought him
home as a baby after the mother was killed accidentally while cutting down a

weeks. I'd given up on him being lost. Then as I was playing with my
Superman and Batman and Robin dolls I got we heard the back door slamming.
It was windy that day and my mother went to lock the door. It wasn't the
wind, though, it was Herman! He was swinging back and forth on the door.

Okay, but it's a bit risque:
One day, a Koala bear comes to America. He gets off the boat in NYC.
He's walking down the 42nd St (this is the old days, mind you)and he's
carrying a briefcase. He walks past a hooker who calls to him and asks
if he wants to have a good time. Well, Koala's are always up for a good
time so he follows her up to her room. She's about to get to work when
the Koala bear says "No, please let me take care of you." Sooo, the
Koala bear proceeds to perform oral sex on the prostitute. Well, she's
screaming and having the time of her life. When he's all done, the
Koala bear jumps off the bed, grabs his briefcase and starts to leave.
the hooker than says"Hey, wait a minute...you were great and all, but
you still have to pay me." The Koala says, "No I don't." She says,
"Yes you do, I'm a prostitute, which means I get paid for having sexual
relations with men!" So the Koala bear pulls out a dictionary from his
briefcase and says, "Look up Koala bear." So she does. The Koala bear
says, "read what it says." The hooker is now a bit confused and says,
"What does this have to do with you not paying me?" the Koala bear
says, "Read what it says, 'Koala bear--Eats bushes and leaves'!"

Indeed. I loved that scene in Pulp Fiction, and was envious that
Travolta got to shake a leg with the lovely and talented Uma Thurman.
1. Mr. Roper (almost made me wanna be a landlord!)
2. Kramer (loved Rev Jim, but Kramer is too cool)
3. Death Wish (nobody has the icy cool of JB)
4. Styx (yeah! "well I wanna be a blue collar man")
5. "Frampton Comes Alive" (looked just like him in '77)
6. "We Are the World"
7. Hippies (punks and goth leave me COLD)
8. Deep Purple (REAL tough one; I heard "Fireball" and Master of Reality
for the first time on the same night at a girlfriend's house--and loved all
three!)
9. Yes (Andersen and Wakeman...swell, swell , swell)
10. Vinnie Barbarino (what? where?)
11. The Exorcist (the nite it opened a bird flew into the theater and scared
the HELL out of everyone!)
12. Soap (both were good, but Soap was a classic that is still repeated by
similar shows today)
13. "Miss You" (Rod was the dressed-up mod, but Mick still had real swagger)

#15 and telling me that "Linda" liked me and wanted to go out.)
17. A memorably angry moment? (going out to dinner with my dad and him

table.)
18. A moment of deep contentment? (when I took a frozen chicken to a
friend's house on Xmas eve in 1973. They did not have much money cuz his
dad was sick and unemployed. I told them to cook it for xmas dinner if they
wanted. I came back late the next day, and literally saw a "chicken
skeleton" on a big serving plate by the sink!)
19. Where were you when Reagan got shot? (At college)
20. Where were you when the OJ verdict was announced? (Came home from work
over lunch to watch the verdict)
21. Where were you when Neil Armstrong walked on the moon? (I was staying
overnight at my uncle's farm and helping my cousins cut and bale hay--aw
shucks)

24. Romans
25. Trojans

28. The Yippies (hated the brutality at the Chi Town Dem Convention, but was
no fan of many Yippies either)
29. east coast rappers (Biggy was the best of them all)
30. Coen Brothers (they are practically local)
31. Oliver Stone
32. Martin Scorsese (tough choice)
33. Al Pacino (god, another tough choice, but I like more of Al's movies
better)
34. Willem Dafoe (an intense, versatile, and good actor)
35. 2001
36. The chicken (somebody had to sit on the damn egg to keep it warm)
37. favorite joke? (??)

42. Hee Haw (stupid show, but I loved to watch Roy play guitar and the girls
do anything)
43. Davey and Goliath? (More heartwarming to me -- I thought Gumby was kind
of weird)
42. Monopoly (liked them both, but I never played The Game of Life for 56
hours straight)

Aw, c'mon you guys, give us some credit; we have, after all, given the
world Count Basie, Springteen, the Smithereens, Monster Magnet, and all
the Hoboken bands. Plus, Jack Nicholson, Danny Devito, Jack Klugman,
Jason Alexander, Valerie Harper, and misc. others. Also, let's not forget
Thomas Edison - where would we be without the lightbulb (or the movie
projector).
Actually, I may be in NJ, but I'm not necessarily of it, at least not
completely; Jersey people now seem to gravitate toward the suburbs and
shop at the strip malls; I'm not really sure how people in the burbs
spend their leisure time. I prefer to jump on the Path train and wander
around and absorb the City. You know, I'd move to Manhattan in a
heartbeat, but since I'm not independently wealthy, that's not about to
happen. Plus, is there a more obnoxious mayor than Rudy Giuliani? At
least I don't have to deal with him. So I think I'll stay put.

where do Philly people fit in?

Do me a favor please. Throw in sopme Mets and Knicks tickets, a couple a good
slices of pizza, a canoli, a bagel and some theater passes. ( Am I asking for
too much?)

Honest, I love New York, I'll be in the city sometime the last week in January
just to enjoy it.

Let's not forget something that is near and dear to my heart, the drive-in

I have a suggestion; since Dave and I are both Mets fans (and I am
assuming that as a proud Brooklynite, Buddy is more of a NL kind of guy)
we all get together at Shea Stadium for a Mets game this Spring. What
do you all think?
Kelly, I don't know what your baseball politics are, though of course,
Queens is much closer to L.I. than the Bronx

It's not due to be shown through March, according to the Sci-Fi channel's
schedule anyway, I'm afraid. I've seen "mixed up zombies" with and without
the MSTing, and must say I definitely prefer it with. I enjoy schlock more
than most, but "zombies" somehow never did it for me.
> Which is your favourite episode of MST3K??
"Teenage Caveman", with Robert Vaughn, was my first and gets the vote for
sentimental fave.

Ooh, toughie... can you make mine half and half please?

Don't think I ever listened to either in its entirety.

We are the World.

You're kidding, right?

Couldn't name a single song by either, sorry.

Genesis

Vinnie Barbarino
>11. The Exorcist or The Texas Chainsaw Massacre?
Never saw either.
>12. Soap or Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman?
Never saw MHMH, so I can't answer fairly. I would love to see it sometime,
though, as I hear it was brilliant.
>13. "Miss You" or "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy"?
Miss You, no contest.
>14. Which, if any, high school faction did you belong to (or want to

The brains and the performers (I split my time)
>15. A memorably sad moment?

>17. A memorably angry moment?
I totally cop out on these questions; it's impossible for me to narrow down to
one for any of them, sorry.
>18. A moment of deep contentment?
Realizing I am with the person I hope to spend the rest of my life with.
>19. Where were you when Reagan got shot?
Spring break, 7th grade, visiting my grandparents in Florida. We had been down
at the pool, and when we came back upstairs, one of their neighbors opened her
door and said "Did you hear? Reegan's (sic) been shot!" All this time in the
spotlight and she still couldn't pronounce his name right... My cousin,
however, was on her school trip to Washington DC and was actually there at the
hotel when it happened. The FBI confiscated everyone's cameras. Quite a story
to be able to tell the kids!
>20. Where were you when the OJ verdict was announced?
Man, can you believe I have no idea? I'm guessing I was at home in my
apartment, but I have no frame of reference.
>21. Where were you when Neil Armstrong walked on the moon?
My parents had me seated right in front of the television so I'd be able to say
I saw it. (I was 11 months old.)
>22. Which country would you most want to visit?
Now THAT is a tough one. There are so many on my list. I haven't done much
international travel at all. I would love to return to England, but also visit
Italy, Australia, Israel, and some remote South Pacific island for vacation
someday. ;-)

4 directors whose works I have seen, but have no strong feelings about one way

2001, silly!

Not too familiar with the genre...
>39. favorite low budget schlock movie from the 1970s?
Unfortunately you left out the 80s, so I'll put my answer for that category
here: Nice Girls Don't Explode. Anyone here ever see it? Stars Barbara
Harris and Wallace Shawn.
>40. favorite low budget schlock movie from the last 3 years?
nada

The Oscars

Never saw Mr. Welk, and at the age I was when I saw HH, I thought it was
stupid. Now, who knows?

Never saw either.

Game of Life - wow, haven't played that in AGES!! (I'm much more of a trivia
nut or a Boggle-head, myself.)

>>3. Death Wish or Falling Down?

They're movies about fed-up vigilantes. In Death Wish Charles Bronson is
portrayed as somewhat of a flawed hero, while in Falling Down, Michael Douglas
comes off as a sick-minded villain.
