Yay! Someone else actually remembers Wonderama!! I've tried
describing this one to my husband, but he thinks I was
hallucinating the whole thing. :)

You weren't. I and another friend were convinced that there was a
conspiracy by Bob McAllister, et al, to fix that game where the kids went
up and opened the cans. One can would have flowers (we were sure that
the girls always won this), while the others had the coiled snakes.

If I remember correctly, the show was only local to NYC on Channel 5 (Can't
remember the Call Letters) and the Host was Bob McAllister. Unfortunately, I
can't remember much more than watching it whenever I went to visit my grand-
mother in North Jersey. (Yeah, yeah.....Exit 18, to those who ask :)

Does anybody remember the host before Bob McAllister? He was Sonny Fox.
I guess that belongs in alt.culture.us.1960s.

I saw it in D.C. WTTG Channel 5 every Sunday morning. My kids have
started to watch a show on Nickelodean called "Weinerville" which is very
similar. The audience kids take part in games, the host fools around with
puppets and he shows some classic, vintage cartoons. It's on Sundays.

Ah, but which Wonderama are you talking about? The one with Sonny Fox
or the later one with Bob McCallister? (God, am I old!)

The call letters were WNEW, "Metromedia, channel five in NY". This was
the same channel that brought us I Love Lucy reruns, Truth or
Consequences (with Bob Barker), The David Suskind Show, (I think) Merv
Griffin, Hogan's Heros, and the Jerry Lewis telethon (when it was still
based in NY. I also commend channel five for introducing
me to Merry Melodies, Betty Boop, Roger Ramjet, Sandy Becker, The Big
World of Little Adam, Winchell Mahoney Time, Diver Dan, Top Cat, Astro
Boy and countless others...

I just remembered, East Side Comedy used to be on after Wonderama...

Sonny Fox was a much better host IMHO. Bob just sang and wanted to be
everyone's friend too much.

The one with Bob McCallister. I watched it in Southern California
on one of the independant stations. Maybe channel 13? This would
have been late 60's - very early 70's.
