Tina Turner at the Beacon Theatre, early Seventies. She
was still part of Ike's ensemble with the Ikettes. Tina
put on a billion watt show, and in the finale disappeared
in a puff of smoke!

Then a bit later on her Carnegie Hall concert, which is on vinyl.
Double album blockbuster.

Austin, big field at SH290 & IH35, 1976, Texas Jam

Chicago, Fleetwood Mac, Peter Frampton, Santana, I don't remember who else.
Remember the great outdoor concerts of the 70's?

Sunday Break? Yeah, that does sound right. Was the second one that fall or the
next year? Texas Jam must have been Houston or Dallas.

my first outdoor concert. Gary Wright (Dream Weaver), America, Cecilio

My first concert was in 1974. It was Deep Purple and ELO. Quite an
experience.

My FAVORITE concert was Elton John in summer of 1976. I was 16 years
old.

The WORST concert I saw was Aerosmith in 1978. They were drugged out and
I was very disappointed. I had seen them before so I knew they could be
better. They redeemed themselves on their last tour however.

The BEST show I've ever seen was Bruce Springsteen in the summer of '78
and again that winter at the Stanley Theater (3,500 seats) in Pittsburgh.

The WORST show I saw in the 70's was either Rod Stewart in 1979. He was
two and a half hours late with no opening act and he was plastered out of
his mind. He played his big hit at the time "Do Think I'm Sexy?" and then
played it a couple of songs later as though he'd forgotten he'd just
played it.

OR... I also saw the Beach Boys and Brian Wilson's mental illness must
have gotten the best of him. He stood up in mid song, started yelling at
the band and when they kept playing he threw his arms at the band and
walked off stage and did not return for the remainder of the show.

There were a lot of good shows and a lot of bands who just came through
for the paycheck. I saw so many bands at small theaters (Springsteen, The
Tubes, The Cars, J Geiles Band, Cheap Trick, Billy Joel...)

oh well...

So, that's been it the whole time!

You have been avoiding mormans, at the same time, I have been avoiding
the "mormons" ????

Texas Jam was at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas (saw Fabulous T'birds, Sammy
"the Red Rocker" Hagar, Cheap Trick and The Eagles there in '80)

My favorite of the 70's was Mink DeVille, Nick Lowe, and Elvis Costello at
the Winterland in SF in '78 (part of the 'Last Days of the Winterland'
series)
