Does anyone here remember a kids' show called _The Magic Garden_? There were
two women (Paula and Jennifer) who played guitars, sang songs, read jokes
produced by a "chuckle patch" flower garden, owned a special "adventure
trunk," and explained life's mysteries to Sherman the pink squirrel.

I'm gonna guess this aired around 1973 or 1974...

Wow! Just reading your post brought back a flood of memories...I do
remember the chuckle patch, but I think what you called the adventure
trunk was actually "The Story Box". Unfortunately, I remember seeing the
fishingline as the box "magically" opened and closed by itself - a rude
awakening and loss of innocence for me.
Also, are your sure the pink squirrel was named Sherman? I *think* it was
something else, but I don't know what. I could be wrong though. That
was many moons ago.

If I remember correctly, the squirrel was named Sherlock. Also, while
the one with long black hair (the not-so-pretty one who played the
guitar) was named Carol, I don't know what the one with long reddish
brown hair was called. I used to wish for hair as long as theirs.

ya, i sure do remember...i had the biggest crush on one of the girls...
the squirrel's name was SHERLOCK, and the special adventure box was called
STORY BOX [they would sing "there are no locks on story box, on story box]

the theme song went something like "if you laugh for me HAHAHAH, i'll
laugh for you HAHAHAHHAHA, if you cry for me BOOOHOOOHO i'll cry for
you BOOOOHOOOOHOH, etc.."

it was really low budget and i only got it on cable t.v. from
channel 11 WPIX in NYC.

Paula and CAROLE!!! Geez!!!

This is the garden of make believe
A magical garden of make believe
Where flowers chuckle & birds play tricks
& the magic tree grows lollipop sticks

Here in the garden, what we say & do,
We'd like you to join us & do it too.
Can you crow like a rooster? Cock-a-doodle-do!
& clap your hands & stamp your shoe?

It's a funny place, but it's surely true
& we'd like to share it all with you.

If you sing for me, hmm hmm hmm hmm,
I'll sing for you, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm
If you cry for me, [cry cry cry cry]
I'll cry for you, [cry cry cry cry]
If you scream for me-- AAAHH!
I'll scream for you-- oo-WOAH!
If you laugh for me, hee hee hee hee hee hee!
I'll laugh for you, ho ho ho ho ho ho

So come on in without a fuss *
Cause the magical garden is waiting for us!

* "fuss," not "bus," as I used to sing when I was 4.
