YES. These were the coolest. Beg your Momma *HARD* for those things. I
remember Bobby Sherman or someone like him (Bobby Goldsboro? Mr Weepy
Songs?) having one on the back of Alphabits. It went "I'm takin' a
shade....outta the sun...." or something like that.
Cereal premiums ain't cool like they used to be. The best thing I have
gotten from cereal lately was the set of Kellog bowl with characters
in them. Now, don't get me wrong , they are happenin' and I adore them
'cause of the old characters I remember..but still.
Not too long ago I helped my mom clean out the cabinet above her
washer and found her old S&H Greenstamps and books. Also found ancient
coupons. Needless to say I was useless the rest of the night looking
at old junk. I wanted to take some of those coupons to the store *SO
BAD* and just hand them over. "Whadda you mean, it's expired? It only
says "expires Oct. 31 1972!!" That's MONTHS from now!"

Remember when?

I remember both Archies and Jackson 5 records on the back of
cereal boxes, plus some other stuff (one was a Halloween story).
I also remember someone (not me!) was going to play one of these records
for Show and Tell in school, but accidentally cut the record in
front of the whole class. . .

I remember Bobby Sherman's "Seattle" and the Jackson Five (or, as they spelled
it on the cereal box records, the Jackson 5ive) but not the Archies. The
recordings didn't last long and were fraught with technical problems; they
warped quickly and had a small circle close to the middle with the words, "Place
coin here if disk slips" - remember that?
I also remember Banana Splits records that were premiums, i think, that one
could get by sending in (Kellogg's?) boxtops. These were 7 inch 33 1/3 rpm
records with a small hole in the middle and two songs on each side. Jack in the
Box had similar promotional records which featured Jack the clown singing and
explaining scientific stuff (like where oil comes from) to a bunch of little
kids.

As I recall, I had one of Bobby Sherman singing "Make Your Own Kind of
Music" off of a Honeycombs box (one of four different songs--collect them
all!), and also one of the Jackson 5 singing "I Want You Back", perhaps
from Alpha-Bits. My sister may well still have the Bobby Sherman one
hidden away somewhere.

Drive up in a Marlin with '71 plates, sporting a Chad Everett back-part
hairdo, and try doing that. You'll scare the living crap out of people!

So did the Partridge Family. I'm sad to report my brother and I had a
stack of cereal box 45s. <Sigh> My brother and I actually had a couple of
Partridge albums and, I think, an Archies album.

I remember the Jackson Five used to have records on the back of the
Alpha-Bits box. Which I guess made sense, considering that they had such a
big hit with "ABC." I remember they used to be on the commercials for the
cereal, advertising their records on the back.
As I recall, the records were thin hard plastic, printed on paperboard.
