The Tunnels of Cu Chi

   Strategic debates are fine and dandy, but the tunnels announce a 
truth some people seem to have forgotten. In the suffocating heat of 
the passageways, in a claustrophobia that drives me and three other 
Americans back into the sun...in a black darkness that envelops you when 
the lights go out, the answers to all those policy questions are suddenly 
illuminated. We lost not because there was no light at the end of the tunnel, 
but because, both literally and metaphorically, there was no end to the
