For those suffering from the grey screen of death when transferring
video from your PC to your camcorder, I found the following on the
German Asus site:

ftp://ftp.asuscom.de/pub/ASUSCOM/TREIBER/CHIPSATZ/NVIDIA/1394_filter.zip

I unzipped it to my desktop, and then updated the OHCI Compliant 1394
driver in my device manager, pointing the wizard to the new folder on
my desktop with the driver. Rebooted (important). It now reads, NVIDIA
NForce OHCI PCI to 1394 Host Controller.

I can now send video back and forth between my camcorder and PC
without any difficulty.

My Setup:

Windows XP SP1, DirectX 9.0a
A7N8X Deluxe Rev 1.04 BIOS 1004
512MB Corsair DDR synched at 133
Athlon XP 2400 (not overclocked)
Adobe Premiere 6.5
Sony TRV-310 Digital 8MM

Note: On my system, I was always able to use a Pyro 1394 board without
issues. Only the onboard 1394 ports were a problem.

Also, the reboot part is important. Even though it showed up correctly
in the device manager, I was not successful with my video transfers
until I rebooted.

I am very interested to hear if anyone else has positive results using
different video editing software or cameras.

Blue Skies!
Dan

Also, there is a utility in this package called TOGGLE.EXE. It turns the
filter driver on and off. To turn it on, drop to a command prompt, navigate
to the folder you unzipped with the tooggle.exe utility, and type TOGGLE 1
and hit enter. You should see a confirmation about the filter being turned
on. Reboot afterward, because it does not take effect on the fly. Once
you've turned it on it will stick. To turn it off, type TOGGLE 0 and hit
enter. Again, reboot for the changes to take effect.
