I have recently upgraded to Windows XP and can't get the above mentioned CD
writer to work properly. I have tried lots of different programs but all
fail in different ways. This seems to be mainly when I'm trying to burn
normal data CDs.

Fireburner is one program that works, with this I can burn ISOs and audio
CDs but unfortunately it doesn't support custom data CDs.

Windows built-in cd writing program, Nero, WinOnCD, CDRWin, they all fail.

Is it impossible to get this writer working under XP?

Thanks,
Erik

Try this website: http://www.mitsumi.com/enduser/1_drivers.html
There is a blurb about NT users using aspi for this drive. Also
latest firmware.

Thanks to both of you for replying.

The links on these pages are all to firmware updates which I don't need as
I've already flashed with the latest firmware. What seems impossible to find
is a Mitsumi driver for this drive.

I haven't tried the NT ASPI driver though, would that be advisable for XP?

I just figured that if NT required aspi in order for that drive to
work properly then maybe XP would work if you installed an aspi layer.
I figured it was worth a try. Don't install an NT aspi. I would
recomend force aspi. It's just something to try.

Try these:

Uninstall all the burn softwares by Add/Remove.
Delete all the burn software directories.

Delete the following if found:
atapizer.vxd
c2apix.vxd
c2rec.vxd
c2scsi.mpd
cdd2000.vxd
toextndr.vxd
c2aspi.sys
c2rec.sys

Disable xp built-in burn function:
Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services, and double-click "IMAPI
CD Burning", click Stop, then set "Startup type" as "Disabled".

Install aspi 4.60 by ForceASPI:
http://aspi.radified.com/

REBOOT.

Install CDRWin and select use system aspi.

If CDRWin functions, then install Nero.

I got this far but couldn't find anywhere in CDRWin to set system aspi.
Can't find the setting. I'm using version 5.02.000.

I tried burning without this setting and got exactly the same behaviour as
before.

Thanks,
Erik

That was for the Goldenhawk's CDRWin. Let's uninstall CDRWin 5 (and
delete its files if possible). Then install Nero.

Still no luck unfortunately.

However, since FireBurner works for burning ISOs and audio CDs I'm going to
revert to that. And I was thinking that if I found some program that can
convert a bunch of files into an ISO, I can then burn with FireBurner.

Can anyone recommend any programs that do this?

Many thanks,
Erik
