USB Flash Drive Reading Problem after installing CD-RW

I recently installed a CD-RW in my Dell
DIM3000. Everything works great, but
the one thing that is driving me crazy is that after installing the
CD-RW for some odd reason my computer is not reading my SanDisk U3
smart USB flash drive.

When I plug my flash drive to my computer:

1- Windows recognizes the new hardware, but this process takes 30 to 50
seconds.

2- The U3 software doesn't automatically starts as it normally would.

When I go to My computer:

1- I see the usual two new icons under "Devices with Removable Storage"
[One for the U3 drive, another for the storage]

2- Before the Icon that was given to the U3 drive was a simple CD, now
the icons looks like a CD drive icon.

When I check inside the flash drive: I find no files, not even the U3
software files. It shows as an empty drive.

When I unplug the USB flash drive: In a 4 to 7 minute time, I get a
blue screen telling me the reason for the error. Then it tells me the
drive and a long number.

***This only happens when I plug and unplug the USB flash drive.***

I checked to see if something was wrong with the flash drive itself by
plugging it in my laptop, school's computer, friend's computer and my
computer and work. And in all of this computer the my flash drive
worked just fine. The U3 software started automatically as usual; and I
was able to see and access my files.

What can I do?

Unplug the CD drive power and see if the USB works OK then.
If it`s OK, you might have low power to the USB port.

I've tried that before and it didn't do anything. I contradiction that
I see is that my other non U3 flash drive can be read by the computer,
but my U3 smart flash drive can not be read by my computer. Why? That
is the question. I even tried changing the CD-RW drive letter just to
see if there was a problem there, but nothing.

Either way, you should had known that the request for help was
regarding the first post, for that is the only query on this thread.

There you go again. Once more - GOOGLE IS NOT USENET. Google is
only a foully flawed incompetent interface to the Usenet system.
Most of the readers have no, or awkward, access to any previous
articles, and in fact may have never received them, and may never
receive them in the future. Your articles have to stand by
themselves. You obviously have not bothered to read the URLs
mentioned in my sig below, or you would not be doing such silly
things. Read the sig, read the URLs, and INCLUDE CONTEXT in all
your postings.

I repeat - articles must stand alone. Readers need have no access

Please excuse the miss understanding CBFalconer, I just wasn't inform
of such flaws. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Check the Device Manager, to see if the CD-RW shows up in
a relatively normal looking fashion.
7) Reinstall U3 software. (I assume the U3 instructions say to
install the software, before you plug in the flash device.)
8) Now plug in the U3. Does the U3 software trigger properly ?

If that sequence makes a difference, it could be that the U3
software is poorly written, and the CD-RW (as a removable device)
is somehow being intercepted by the U3.

Do you know whether the U3 software is absolutely essential
to using the product ? If it is not necessary, then don't install
it.

If step (6) is failing, what I would try, is deleting the CD-RW
from Device Manager, reboot, and let Windows redetect the drive.
Since in step (4), the U3 software was removed, Windows should be
able to deal with the CD-RW, if the CD-RW is in fact working
properly.
