Is anyone else planning on building the ultimate doom 3 machine when doom 3
comes out.

I am definetly looking forward to Doom3 and building the ultimate Doom 3
machine :D

Lol.

So maybe we can work together and get the ultimate doom 3 machine working.

Anyway... it's pretty early to make a post like this...

Since it will be months before Doom3 comes out :D

Still better early than late ;)

Lol,

The saying goes:

"Better late than never"

But I don't wanna miss a thing when the Doom3 LAUNCH GOES BOOM :D

Across the planet :D

I wanna be there from the very first second, enjoying single player.

And a day or one/two later being ONLINE KICKING experiencing it :):):)

Not like months later when all the big BOOM/BLAST has past :D

:):):)

Well you keep seeing posts about how even the fastest cards wont be
decent enough and then others where people assume their 9200 ATI will
be okay. I have really kept up with the actual requirements for it
eventhough there are alphas or crude betas or demos or whatevers....
floating around. Its hard to believe they would make a game that
wouldnt run on most of the cards out now.

It is dead serious lol.

I don't want a shitty crashy power fluctating computer.

I am thinking Nvidia's latest NV40 here dude...

Two PCI slots ? Two power connectors ?!

Holyshit !

Defective motherboards, incompatible components.

Etc... many many many euhm holes where one can fall in :D

Together we should and can great the best design for DOOM 3 PC :)

Which is nothing else than the ULTIMATE GAMING MACHINE :)

And ofcourse also THE ULTIMATE PROGRAMMING MACHINE :)

JUST VERYTHING ULTIMATE =====D

Euhm..

ID Software/Nvidia says: NV40 =D

Let's get started a little bit:

I am also thinking ASUS motherboards...

I think ASUS is top quality... but I only had 1 asus motherboard lol hehehe.

Euhm let's see... the most difficult choice will be LCD or MONITOR ?!

I think 19 Inch monitor is a SAFE and CHEAP bet !

I would hate having a broken pixel !

Since the PC should at least last 10 years... only the best components will
do =D

Yes I would like to keep such an expensive PC for years and keep using it
for whatever comes along...

Ofcourse LOT'S OF RAM ! At least 2 GB !!! That's the most memory that can be
allocated in Windows 98/XP I think...

The kernel reservers 2 GB. Unless somehow it is possible to use more memory
on XP without me knowing it about it... (API has to support you know)

Let's see... I WANT A BIG harddisk... so that little fragmentation occurs I
hope... just put on file after the other.

I am very statisfied with my IBM DESKSTAR 14 GXP drive (I think it was
called that).

Yes I know about the DEATHSTAR's 60 GB's platters crash and burning... I
will give IBM/HITACHI the benefit of the doubt... and consider there latest
flagships... or at least 80 GB platters maybe that is even little... maybe
100 GB =D

So an IBM/Hitachi deskstar it is ! (not yet sure which model :D )

Probably 7200 RPM. Seems good. 10000 RPM might get to hot ? Maybe 5000 RPM
will do for less noice and less heat = more reliable.

Hmmm let's see hmmmm processor !

Yes Though choice.

Intel processors are know to have better floating point operations... but
that was true for PIII.... P4's seem to suck at it...

I don't know about AMD's latest processors... I do know AMD 64 BIT processor
has EXECUTION PROTECTION !

Which is a MUST HAVE for more security AGAINST WORMS/ATTACKS/HACKERS :)

That's a major selling point =D

Euhm this question is BEST ASKED to John Carmack lol :D

Me hoping he knows which processor is best... maybe he will say I dont
know... maybe both are good. I dont know :D

So unless Intel comes up with anything spectacular I will go for AMD because
of EXECUTION PROTECTION :D

Yesyesyes Let's continue euhmmmm

Monitor manufacture is easy: Eizo (top quality!) or Liyama (Good
quality/price) =D

Eizo has very good LCD's too but I will definetly go for monitor unless I
come across a really reliable and impressive LCD screen
( LCD's have refresh rates about 30 frames to 40 frames per second which is
quite low for graphics disable... lot's of after glow when a pixel moves
over the screen ) At least that's what I read =D

Ok...

Mouse !!!!!!!! Yes mouse is VERY important =D I hate fucking wireless
mouses... Mouses with wire will do ! These are in short supply !
I hate batteries. Waste.

Ok... Keyboard.... any keybaord will probably do just fine =D as long as it
is not wireless lol !

Motherboard Chipset ?! I don't know yet... something capatible with AMD's
processor and Nvidia NV40 and RAM chipsets...

What kind of RAM ? I dont know... DDR2 ?

100 MB/10 MB ethernet card at least ! Maybe even 1 GB/100MB/10MB if
possible... raises BUS bottleneck question ?!?

Euhm.... let's see.. probably an intel ethernetexpress card ! Intel ethernet
cards are SHITFAST ! :D

Cheap ethernet cards will do but are a bit less good =D

Driver support is important ! I want packet drivers as well for ms-dos lol
if that would even work on such a fast system at least ms-dos bootdisk
should work! =D (yes not being backwards compatible is a bit scary ! :) )

CD or DVD ?!?!?!

Doom3 could come out on DVD only ?! or maybe CD ?!

Hmmmm CD player is a must ! Plextor cd burners are top quality :D
reading/writing/rewriting excellent no extra cd player needed.

DVD player ????? Good question... I once recked a DVD player but placing A
DVD UP SIDE DOWN ON PURPOSE to see what would happen... it fucking died
lol... DONT DO THAT LOL :D Shame !

Euhm....

Creative Labs Soundblaster ! Software has bugs... hardware has bugs... BUT
SOUND QUALITY IS EXCELLENT.... unless stupid VIA chipsets are used...
CRACKLE CRACKLE ! BAD !

Probably NO VIA CHIPSETS ! Does AMD have chipsets ?! OH OH

Maybe AMD processors have problems with INTEL CHIPSETS ?!

OH OH...

Maybe VIA is not that bad after all... AMD + VIA ? = powerpack ? :)

Otherwise I will have to go with

Creative Labs + Intel = Quality =D but no security =D

Hmmmm

Ok

1. Monitor covered
2. Processor ?
3. Ram ?
4 Harddisk !
5 Mouse !
6. Keyboard
7. CD player/burner
8. DVD player
9. Soundblaster !
10. Motherboard/Chipset
11. 3D Card
12. Power supply ????!!!!!!!!!!!! What power supply is best ! I want a
SLEAVE BEARING FAN FOR EASY CLEANING OF DUST !! and OILING/GREACING IT :D =
much cheaper than replacing =D

13. Tower model ????!!!?!?!? VERY IMPORTANT, BAD tower = BAD placing =
Possible short circuit or NO FIT = BAD/CRANKY pc

It should look a bit cool as well... but not too cool... maybe some NEON
light which can be TURN ON AND OFF lol... or MAYBE JUST PLAIN WHITE LOL =D

Everything SHOULD BE WHITE ! BLACK=UGGGGLLYYY (Sorry nigger) :) (Sorry DELL
:PP**)

14. Speakers !!!! NO STUPID POWERBOX SUBWOOFER... that will just make me
appartment shake to pieces !
130 WATT is good I think... because half the watt of that is the quality
part.

15. Maybe a home theator set... for 5.1 surround sound.? Maybe apparment is
not suited for that... Let's of wiring needed ? = BRAKE NECK =D
FALL OVER speaker =D Hurts bad =D

Ok.... hmmm

16. Diskdrive = doesnt matter any will do

17. 56k6 modem is a must have in case ethernet/isp fails ! Staying connected
with the ALMIGHTY NET is a MUST =DDDD
<- NET BACKUP SYSTEM =D

GOOD BIOS MANUAL !!!!

MUST HAVE A GOOD RESET BUTTON !!!!

POWER OFF = POWER OFF !!!!!!!!! NOT STUPID SLEEP MODE !!! :D

POWER ON = POWER ON !!! =D

SLEEP MODE = EVIL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

BOOT FROM CD = NECESSITY :)

NO STUPID SHIT LIKE DUAL BIOS ! IT DOESNT WORK.

MOST HAVE BIOS IN ROM !!!!! FLASH ONLY = BAD !!!!

VIRUSES CAN FLASH MOTHERBOARD DEAD ! <- OUCH VERY EXPENSIVE ! MUST BUY NEW
PC =D lol.

Hmmm let's see...

Monitor must have all kinds of options to setup they usually have no big
deal.. BUT CHECK just in case... You never know what these hardware
manufcaturer bo-bo come up with next WHICH TOTALLY IRRITATES the shit out of
me =D

CHECK EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU BUT IT... ONLINE... AND IN STORE =D

OPENED PACKAGE = BAD PACKAGE = REJECT !

Check manufacturer WEBSITE/SUPPORT... BAD SITE = NO DEAL :)

BAD HARDWARE = RETURN TO STORE IMMEDIALTY =D

SUE STORE IN NECESSARY =D lol.

DONT GET SCREWED IN THE FIRST PLACE =D

Hmmmm....

CHECK WINDOWS XP COMPATBILITY LIST ????

CHECK WINDOWS XP SUPPORT ?!

PC MUST BE READY FOR THE FUTURE = 64 BIT ERA !

LONGHORN COMPATIBLE ! =====DDDDD

Ok I think I am done...

One more thing:

MUST PLAY DOOM3 =D

WHOLE PC/OS MUST WORK PERFECTLY AND FLUENTLY =D

That's up to user also... good drivers, OS good settings, slick OS, no
bullshit :) = LOT'S OF XP CONFIGURING :(((

=D

Skybuck.

Hmm indeed I forgot something :)

Kernel space = 2 GB max.

User space = 2 GB max

Total MAX RAM = 4 GB !!! =DDDD

4 GB RAM IT IS !!! =DDDD

Virtual Memory = OFF I would lovvvve that =D
