I recently opened and rebuilt my wife's system, it has a V3, and i didn't
remember well or something has happened! It's very very hot, i can't touch
it for a long time!

Is this normal? I mean, it's not hot from gaming, it's hot right from the
boot up!

TIA!

Yea, those suckers do get hot. Personally, I mount a fan on it, for
safety's sake, but it's not required.

You might try taking the heatsink off and scraping the thermal pad gunk off
of the chip and using arctic silver II in place of it, it will still get
heated, but more of the heat will be transfered to the heatsink, where a fan
can blow it away.

I disagree. Personally, I wouldn't mess with the thermal compound as you
run the risk of seriously fouling up, and you wouldn't have much of a
benefit-- only a degree or two centigrade. My advice would be to improve
overall system cooling and add a card cooler.

I don't know about removing the heatsink, on the one I had, you could NOT
remove it at all. (Voodoo 3 2000)

If the heat sink is HOT the thermal bond is good. Now the question is how
to cool the heat sink, more case fans or a direct fan.
