Maybe you can use a tool that monitors the installation of a program,
so that you can see if everything has been removed ofter you unistalled
it.
regmon (http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Regmon.html) is a good
tool to monitor the registry entries, but I don't know a tool that
monitors installed files, though.

My personal use, is to, delete only the Green entries.
Click on Select All and choose > Select all Green items.
Right click to delete.
Or, you can install one of these, reinstall your program & then
uninstall.
Here is my info, links are like us, they die. If any of these links are
dead or are no longer freeware, at least you have the name of the
program which you put into a search engine like Google & maybe you can
let me know the latest info.
I am not recommending anything, my list gives you a starting point to
find something to suit your operating system ( most people do not even
mention it ) & skill level. What will work on my computer, may not be
happy on yours. What I can understand, re how to install & run, may not
apply to you.

Only if it's running when the program is installed. Otherwise there's
no way to know which files were installed by which program. Run Total
Uninstall, then install the program again. If it's like most bad
installations, it'll reinstall those files over the existing ones.
Then TU can rip them out.
ISTR there was a bolt-on freeware utility to Total Install (or to a
program like it) which used the data gathered and it removed the changes
which had been made.
Can't recall it's name.

Data gathered when? A lot of installation programs don't gather any
data at the time of installation.
Unless you monitor the installation of a program, its complete removal
is near an impossibility.
The last freeware version (actually it has a discrete link to the
payware version in the lower left hand corner of the main window, so
technically it's PROmotionware, but I can live with this) of Total
Uninstall (2.35) does this and also allows you to uninstall the program.
I use it all the time to good effect:

This is an excellent program.

I meant the data was that which was gathered by Total Uninstall or
InCtrl5 or one of those apps.
It may be something like ChkCtrl but as I said, I don't recall its name.
Here is ChkCtrl http://members.tripod.com/~randy_hall/download.htm
The concept might be better explained here as I don't use this app.

Either Total Uninstall or rolling back the registry will remove all
software installed during an installation.

I think you are talking about a little program called UNDOReg. Here is the
readme file from that program. You can find it by doing a google search.
Thank you for trying UNDOReg!
NOTE: This Win95/98/NT (or higher) freeware program is provided as is and
without any guarantees of any kind. It may be freely distributed, but not
modified in any way.
*** DESCRIPTION ***
When you install a new program, the installation utility adds new data to
your system registry, often UNREMOVED after the uninstallation. You can
have a record of exactly what the install program did using:
- RegShot
http://regshot.ist.md
http://regshot.yeah.net
- InCtrl 4.1
- InCtrl 5
- System Mechanic
UNDOReg analyzes the report generated by one of these utilities, and
deletes referenced registry keys.
*** USAGE ***
Click on "Open Report" and choose a TXT report generated by RegShot, InCtrl
4.1/5, System Mechanic.
Alternatively, create a shortcut to "Undoreg.exe" and put it into your
"Windows\SendTo" folder. You can then right-click on any TXT report file
and choose:
[Send To] --> [Undoreg.exe]
*** UNINSTALLATION ***
Go to control panel add/remove programs, select "UNDOReg" and press the
add/remove button. Your system will be completely cleaned.
If you like this software, *please* let me know.

A very well written and informative one too!
Thanks, BoB
Thanks BoB! Some real fine tips there. And you're right, the last truly
freeware version of the program was 2.34. I still have a copy of the
setup file for that version. The improvements over 2.34 in 2.35 are the
following:
Version 2.35
! Crash while scanning some systems
! Wrong line added in the uninstall log that a delete file operation
succeded
but, in fact, that operation was not done in that phase because the
file was shared
! Memory leaks removed
+ New translations added
* Updated program home page
but otherwise they're almost the same except for that link to the site
where now there's only a $ware version. The history at that page starts
at version 3.
Maybe I should modify my signature file to say "obnoxious
PROmotionware". I don't think that link is too big a deal.
Thanks John and BoB,
I'm glad someone appreciates the tips I posted at my wiki. I use the
2.35 version and just ignore the link at the bottom.
Total Uninstall is the one of the most important tools jor me. I don't
fire up a new PC without installing a copy of it.
Have fun!

Ditto on that Clif. Total Uninstall is the first program I load on a
newly formatted PC (although I now use the shareware version which
seems to be faster)
