Actually, I know of a program called Explorer Notes 2.0, that modifies
Explorer so you can have a comments column. Well, that's about 5 dollars to
buy. Just wondering if there is anything else. I'm just examining something
called AC Browser Plus. Good, but it did not put an option to open it, on
the menu you get when right-click on a folder. I'm running Windows 98 SE.

What is FileNote?

FileNote is little FREEWARE shell extension for Windows95/98/NT4 that
adds one command to context-menu of file object. This command lets
you easily edit or create text file, that has the same name as
the initial file, but with the TXT extension.
Not exactly what you are looking for, but maybe ..

Anyway, is this the same program you're talking about? It *appears* to
be free, but I haven't installed it yet.
To Richard and others: have you looked at 4DOS, now freeware?
There was some discussion a while back in a.c.freeware on file
description / comment adders. You could try groups.google.com for this.

Aaah, but I need to see the comments in a column. As far as I know, only
Explorer Notes 2.0 adds a column to Explorers other columns.
AC Browser Plus gives a comments column, but it's clumsy inasmuch as you
have to open the program and then go through all the directories until you
get to your folder.
I'll probably end up getting Explorer Notes 2.0, from PC Mag. It's pretty
cheap, about 5 dollars.

Then WTF didn't you say so in the first place? You asked for a program

Well, I was thinking all file management programs would show a screen like
say Explorer, and I was asking for a program that would show a comments
column as well.

The program referenced above is *not* Explorer Notes. It is something
called Easy Explorer 2.0, and is designed just to put an icon in the
systems tray to allow you to start Explorer. It may have other
features, but I didn't bother to install it since it wasn't Explorer
Notes. (Also, it is not a PC Mag utility.)

Freeware purists would never consider using a shareware
nagware program ,of course, :-) but Total Commander has
file comments, and it works for internet shortcuts too.
These comments are automatically copied and moved with the file.
Hover the cursor over a file and the file comment
is shown as a tool tip field.
You can choose to store file comments in a files.bbs file
or a descript.ion file which are both old standard systems
for storing file comments.

TC gives you file comments in a column in the file
manager view, 29 possible custom views, use one of them
for this purpose or add such a column to the regular view.
