v2009: difference in keywordtool

hi,
The api for the keywordtool https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal
will be depreciated
We have to use the sk tool http://www.google.com/sktool/ from now on.

The tools work in a different way and I dont like that.
When having a new client thats not operation Adwords right now and
have a site with all the same html titles the new tool gives back poor
results.
example:
http://www.begroep.nl/ settings: dutch / netherlands

gives back zerro results http://www.google.com/sktool/?pli=1#keywords?site=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.begroep.nl%2F&q=

with 1 keyword entered: it gives back only 9 keywords, not even the
plural form 'cateraars':
http://www.google.com/sktool/?pli=1#keywords?site=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.begroep.nl%2F&q=cateraar%2C%20%2C

Now the results form the old tool. I yust entered 'cateraar' leave the
use synonims checked
and get back: 200+ resutls, including plurals.

Also the data differ:
'cateraar' last month search volume in old tool is for exact 720 and
for broad 6600
'cateraar' monthly searches in new sk tool is 350 and not sure if this
is for exact or broad

So the data differ, get back less resutls and nu plurals nor synonyms.

Can you confirm that the old api for the 'old' KeywordToolExternal
really will be depreciated? This gives us a lot of headaches.

confirm, the existing KeywordToolService is deprecated and will be
sunset on April 22, 2010. The Search-Based Keyword Tool has a
different method of calculating search volume, which is why the
results may differ ( see http://www.google.com/support/sktool/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=114875
).

The TargetingIdeaService, though based on similar technology, behaves
a little differently from the Search-based Keyword Tool. A quick test
showed that it returned many results for "cateraar", including the
plural form. Please give this service a try and let me know if you
have any specific problems.

Hi,
I luckily see more results when logged in. But still the synonyms are
not in!
Also when using a site with all the same html titles without any clue,
the tool cannot get anything out of that. The 'old' tool did a better
job!
Please pass this on to the engineers...

and one more thing:
can you explain the difference in calculated search volume?

Can you also confirm the 'search for synonyms' function is not there
anymore where it was in the KeywordToolService api?

Hi,

As I mentioned previously, the TargetingIdeaService does not behave
exactly the same as the Search-based Keyword Tool in the web
interface. I would recommend you run some tests with the service, as
I think you will find that you have much more control over the results
returned than is available the web interface.

Returning synonyms is the default behavior in the API, and the use of
the NgramGroupsSearchParameter can be used to require that the seed
keyword appear in the results.

Hi Eric,
thanks. As I understand now, there is no filter to set synonyms off or
on.
I certainly agree there is much more controle in teh v2009 api and
thats great!
Default the api gives synonyms and then with the
NgramGroupsSearchParameter 'call' we can delete the synonyms by
getting rid of all the
non-stam Ngram groups and the 'others' category?
Is that correct?

That's correct, synonyms can be filtered out by using the
NgramGroupsSearchParameter.
