I want to sign up for AdWords API, so I follow the instructions
(https://adwords.google.com/support/aw/adwordsapi/bin/answer.py?
hl=en&answer=15104) and when I go to "MyAccount" tab I don't see the
API Center anywhere. How can I activate it?

Thank you

Hi,

The AdWords API Center tab will only be available on My Client Center
(MCC) accounts. More information is available here:

https://adwords.google.com/support/aw/adwordsapi/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=15104

It seems to me the MCC activation is broken, I tried to follow the
procedure for activating it for an existing account, but that results
in "The login is already an AdWords account". So I'm staring at a dead
end.

After some searching I found out that when you already have an AdWords
account it is impossible to enable MCC for it and you will get a
version of the client that does not have API Center under My Account.

I have no idea how to get the money I put in my account onto an
account that has API access. Guess I'll have to wait for a fix?

Hi,

The behavior you are seeing is as it was designed. There are two
types of accounts: AdWords and MCC:

- AdWords accounts have campaings, ads, keywords etc. The billing
information in this account pays for CPC costs, etc.
- MCC accounts cannot have campaigns or run ads. They are linked to
AdWords accounts and allow for various management activities. These
accounts can also be registered for API access. The billing
information in this account pays for API costs.

The same login (email) cannot be used for both an AdWords and MCC
account. If you already have an AdWords account you must create a new
MCC account using a different login.

API registration must be done with an MCC account, but the developer
token that is obtained can be used with any AdWords account you
manage.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Best,
- Eric

Just bit me too.

Who designed this behavior and where do they live?
