Millie Still Needs Help to
Get to Her Happily Ever After!
What a lovely dog this MILLIE! I am writing to you again
to request $$ donations for MILLIE, the sweet young boxer mix who was dumped by
her owner in Sept with major skin problems, secondary bacterial/yeast infections
and no fur. We successfully raised the initial $1,700 for her via 19 of you
wonderful donors to Doggie Harmony, a 501(c) 3 non profit no kill rescue in
Atlanta (all tax deductible). Thank you all again!
However, MILLIE's condition at return was so advanced
that she’s needs an additional $2,300! If everyone chips in something, we can
raise this $$$ for her now. $900 of it was recently incurred at her vet in
Lilburn when Millie had a major flare-up and the rest ($1,400) will be due to
Georgia Veterinary Specialists in Sandy Springs starting Nov 29, as they try to
pin down the protocol that will keep Millie’s skin both comfortable and
maintained. Dr. Schick, a great dermatologist is now her vet and says
MILLIE's prognosis is excellent; she just needs specialty medical care right now
to get on track.
Feel free to contact me for any reason about MILLIE.
Thank you for supporting this wonderful dog. She is with a great foster dad,
Mike, along with Nikki his dog and his 2 black and white cats. MILLIE loves them
all, and vice versa.
Millie’s History
In September, early October, I sent out a plea for
$1,700 donations for this sweet dog MILLIE. The entire $1,700 was donated thanks
to 19 generous dog lovers.
MILLIE grew all her fur back and all skin issues
vanished while she was on the meds and treatments at her vet in Lilburn. So we
took new photos 3 weeks ago and were going to mass market MILLIE for
adoption.
HOWEVER, about that same time, she started
to show bad skin symptoms again, very quickly, so we had to have her
aggressively re-treated at her vet in Lilburn, along with blood tests to
determine if she could have environmental allergies. (Mange was ruled out weeks
before via skin scrapes and then biopsies). The blood tests showed she does have
allergies, so we now have her being treated at Georgia Veterinary Specialists
(GVS) - Dr Schick - here in Sandy Springs.
MILLIE gets the dermal skin tests in 1.5 weeks, and
immediately will be getting allergy shots to desensitize her to the things she
is allergic to - mainly some trees, grass, weeds and maybe one mold. It’s not an
instant fix, but rather an ongoing one that will take some time, BUT Dr Schick
gives MILLIE an excellent prognosis for great health. Combined new $$ spent and
to be spent in the next 2 weeks = $ 2,300!
As I indicated on my initial emails, this is the first
time in years that I have asked for help for a rescue dog; but we just have to
raise the funds for MILLIE's rehab. She is a wonderful fun, sweet dog, loves and
lives with other animals and loves all people. She acts like a regular healthy,
happy dog except she has this allergy with related skin problem that has to be
addressed in order to get her onto her next life.
Lastly, if there is a kind person out there who may want
to adopt MILLIE who has the funds to continue you her care, and is savvy or
wants to become savvy about dogs with this problem and the fixes, please contact
me direct at 404-401-2327. Thanks so much, everyone!

Great Dogs in Urgent Need
of Foster (or Adoptive) Homes!
I have been at the shelter
since Dec 04, hoping my owner lost me by accident.
If my owner doesn't come
for me, I need out by December 11!
Little Ant - a 25 lb wirey
terrier mix male - followed a friend and her three dogs home on Sunday. Hoping
someone was looking for this cute little fellow, Ant was taken to Fulton County
where he'll be on hold for JUST 7 days until his fate will be decided by the
shelter. The shelter thinks he's approx. 2 yrs old. We would love to find a
foster or rescue group who'd intake him by this coming Sunday. If anyone is
interested, please contact me: Ja...@doggieharmony.org.

Big Ben's Story...Big Ben was found
and is being housed very temporarily by his finders. He has just finished
treatment for heartworms and is on his way to being 100% healthy and
fully-vetted. Like his namesake, Big Ben is a charming and trusty friend who
enjoys playing with dogs and children. He looks to be perhaps a
rottweiler-shepherd mix, or perhaps just another Heinz-57 mutt. Let me tell you
something about those Heinz-57's -- they end up being one of the best dogs
you'll ever have! Give us a 'bark' if you'd like to get to know more about Big
Ben! Contact Sandra at poohp...@aol.com if you can offer
Big Ben a home -- temp or perm!

Levi's Story...Levi is a goofy,
affectionate young pup who has had a rough start to life - he started out
homeless and was hit by a car when he was only a few months old. He crawled
under the porch of a nearby house and stayed there for several
days until the homeowner could coax him out and bring him to a nearby
shelter where he received veterinary care and doctors healed his injured
back legs. His foster mother pulled him from the shelter where he was living,
and after some TLC at her house Levi is fully recovered and ready to
find his forever home. He has blossomed into a goofy, floppy, SWEET
boy. Levi is house and crate trained, knows a few basic commands, is very
social with both people and other dogs, and gets along with children of all
sizes. Though he gets along well with the cat at his foster home, he
doesn't have much experience with cats outside of that environment. He is very
playful, but loves to cuddle up in your lap for a nap after a play session. Levi
is 6 months old, 38 lbs. (but is still a growing puppy), neutered and
up to date on all his shots, and is on flea/tick and heartworm
prevention. If you are interested in meeting this sweet boy, contact his
foster Koelling Borneman ('Kelling') at koelling...@gmail.com or

Lucky's Story...Sweet snuggle-bunny
boxer mix looking for loving family! This sweet little
skinny girl was found in an office garage. Lucky is approximately 1 y/o, 27 lbs
and healthy (heartworm negative) - aside from a need to put on a bit more
weight. She should be approximately 40 lbs. In spite of spending many nights
hungry, she'll chose love from people over food any day. Lucky LOVES other dogs
and adores people. She's very calm, sweet and quite the snuggle bunny. She's
learning house manners but is a very smart, quick study. Lucky is looking
for a great family to give her the affection she is so willing to return. You
may contact Debra at plane...@yahoo.com / 404-218-8554 or Seslee/Geoff at
ghma...@gmail.com with additional questions about

Miles's Story...MILES is a precious ball of fur and is patiently waiting for his
forever home! Miles was found in Buckhead as a tiny puppy and dropped off
at VILLAGE VETS BUCKHEAD nearly 5 months ago. He's been lucky enough to be in
safe and loving hands with our wonderful friends at Village Vets. If you have
been involved with rescue at all - you must know what incredible things VV has
done for us all. They have gone above and beyond helping rescues all over the
state - now I hope we can help them by finding MILES a foster group - or FOREVER
FAMILY SOON! MILES is 35 pounds and a lab
mix - you can't tell from the pictures - but his coat is like VELVET and
although he's mostly black lab - his coat has a super cool brown tint to it -
and he's just so special. HE LOVES dogs and kids and all people and that
tail just starts wagging the minute you meet him. He's been lucky to be in a
wonderful environment with great nutrition and vetting - so he is in incredible
shape. MILES is probably just at 6 months old and he's been fully vetted
and microchipped. IF you can help at all --
please contact VILLAGE VETS BUCKHEAD at 404-844-4824 and ask for DR MATTHEWS or
JUSTIN. Village Vets is located just off 75 at Northside Parkway in Buckhead.

Peanut's Story...Young Peanut is
looking for a new home, his mommy left him behind when she moved. Peanut is one adorable pooch and he looks like a lot of fun too! A
thoughtful neighborhood group realized Peanut was left behind/abandoned by
another neighbor who moved. So, they gathered funds to get him
neutered/vetted. Peanut is young and sweet – seems everything about him is
just right. One of the neighbors has kindly taken him in into a good home an be
found. If you have questions about Peanut, you can contact Fred at ibi...@bellsouth.net or
404-422-1092. Peanut deserves a very special forever home after being left
on his own for so long!

Chloe's Story...Tiny, sweet Chloe is
looking for a new home. She loves kids and they love her. Chloe is a healthy 3-year-old Boston Terrier/Beagle mix that's just
under 20 lbs. She tends to be more of a people-dog than a dog-dog, although she
does live with a larger dog and a toddler at present. She's nervous about
meeting new dogs, but with a slow introduction, she can get along with others
just fine. Although not an ideal candidate for those who enjoy the dog park, she
has many excellent qualities that make her a great addition to the home. She's
very affectionate, loves to play and is always up for lap time. She is
also not an excessive barker -- a big plus for dog owners with sensitive
neighbors! Chloe is an active dog, so she'll do best in a home that has a nice
fenced yard and/or someone who likes to walk/jog on a regular
basis. You may contact her current caregivers at
clark....@gmail.com or (434)
260-1454 with questions. Can you provide Chloe the cuddler with the happy home
she seeks?

Ginger's Story...Young, beautiful
Boxer, Pit mix looking for a forever home. Beautiful Ginger was found running
across a busy Atlanta highway in early September 2011. We brought her
home and have started to teach her what it's like to be in a family. We are
unsure of Ginger's history, though she was found in an area of Atlanta that is
no stranger to fighting dogs. She has a few small scars on her head and neck.
Most interestingly, her feet are very splayed; that's why her middle name is
Platypus! We think that the muscles and tendons are broken down from standing on
concrete for far too long. Her feet don't seem to bother her, however, and they
are just the cutest you've ever seen. Ginger does very well with our pack
leader, Pete. She has shown some fear aggression towards other dogs but is
currently in training to help with that issue. Ginger is very friendly
with people and takes quickly to strangers that come to visit our
house. She is slowly but surely getting better on our walks. I prefer to
walk her in the evening, when there are fewer distractions and pulls very
little. Ginger is mostly house broken (only accidents happen when we ignore her
signals). She is crate trained and that is where she sleeps at night. She has
some chewing tendencies but I can easily take something from her and replace it
with a chew-friendly toy. She is getting good with 'sit,' 'touch,' 'watch,' and
'leave it' so far, and there are more behaviors to come, the more we work with
our trainer. Ginger is a sweetheart, she is very quick to settle down and
curl up in her place. She is most delightful to take naps with, because she
curls up into the smallest ball she can manage! She also snores a little bit and
it is THE CUTEST. Please consider adopting little Ginger into your family.
She will need to be an only dog, at least for a little while, so she can get
comfortable in her new home. She is very dedicated, loyal, and trusting. She has
a lot of love to give and wants only to be the best dog for her owners. If you
would like to meet Ginger please contact Abby at Abby.g...@gmail.com /

Kalos's Info...

Med. 26-60 lbs
(12-27 kg) |
Sex: |
Female |
I am housetrained, up to date with
shots, not good with kids, good with dogs, and good with
cats.
Kalos's Story...Kalos was found outside -- locked in a crate, starving and hairless
with rope burns around her neck. She had been locked in the crate for so long
her legs were fused so that she walked on her elbows. Here kind rescuer has
spent the past several months rehabbing her. Kalos is now house broken, walks
normally and has had her shots. Kalos, which means beautiful and with
purpose, a very good girl and has been living inside with family/child. They've
had no issues at all with her but notice she does get startled easily. For that
reason, her rescuer thinks it best for her to go to a home with no/older
children who can be understanding of this. Kalos is approximately 1 year old and
35 lbs. She is good with other dogs and seems to care less about cats that pass
by her in the neighborhood. Kalos has a little puppy play left in her, but
is fine laying in the sun most of the day. She is super sweet and loves
attention. She also is very smart and listens really well. We have
worked hard to get her back to normal. Kalos had her last shots in April 2011.
Doggie Harmony is willing to sponsor her spay upon adoption, provided adopters
are willing to pay a $100 fee. Contact foster Danielle at broc...@hotmail.com
/ 334-329-0838 with questions about Kalos.
