Acrobat 8 Standard box version: installation stopps before Licence agreement appears

Adobe never let me down until now: purchased upgrade Acrobat 8.
Installation should have been routine. Sorry it did not. I installed
w/o Antivirus, deinstalled older Acrobat versions incl. all Readers. It
progressed when I was asked to start Acrobat 8. It loaded. A screen
appeared to start licence details in German. Then my loading clock
started to flicker and that was the end of it. After a minute or so the
screen informed "keine Rückmeldung" and I had to shut down the
program.
So many times I installed deinstalled - the whole routine. I dont know
what it causes. There must be a little programm in Acrobat that does
not like my computer/environement.
