I'm well aware that TiddlySnip could do with some work however there
any many obstacles in the way of getting this done:
a) I wrote TiddlySnip whilst trying to teach myself JavaScript and
XUL. The codebase is therefore a mess and honestly not worth the
trouble of adding an additional features to. Some "simple" features
like adding the option to save to different target files would in fact
require a complete rewrite.. which is overdue anyway to make the code
more manageable. Summary: small changes in the code arent really
possible, a revamp is needed.
b) I work for a non-profit and that takes up most of my time, and what
little I have left I dedicate to giving back to various communities
that I am a part of as well as doing some freelancing that helps pay
the bills. That doesn't leave any time for taking on large projects
single handedly such as a complete rewrite of TiddlySnip. Smaller
projects that don't require so much continuous time are easier to
manage.
c) Being completely realistic about it, I neither see myself having
the time to develop this further nor keep it up to date by myself. So
far its been a one-man show and I've done everything myself. However,
due to both personal and professional reasons I simply cannot continue
to do so. So until and unless I can get some other developers
interested in helping out, I'm afraid there wont be much progress if
any.
Once again, I would love to have the resources to put more effort into
TiddlySnip but I'm afraid that's not a reality.
In terms of developers that might be interested... you need a basic
knowledge of JavaScript and XUL. XUL preferences are in fact the
biggest stumbling block for me. Its not that hard to learn the
required skills, I did in a period of a few weeks when I first worked
on this and you can find all the tutorials and documentation you need
with the help of google. So if someone's really interested in getting
this moving along, getting your hands dirty with some JavaScript and
XUL would be a good start! ;)
Cheers,
