Joe Biden’s Awesome Environmental Record
August 23rd, 2008 · 4 Comments

The news is being widely reported tonight that Democratic presidential
candidate Barack Obama (D-Illinois) has selected Senator Joe Biden (D-
Delaware) to be his running mate in the 2008 presidential election.

Luckily for us, Obama’s found a candidate who’s just as strong on the
environment as he is, and Biden isn’t afraid to say it.

Just look at some of the facts about Biden’s environmental record that
earned him a lifetime score of 84 from the League of Conservation
Voters (Obama’s score was 96; McCain’s, a pitiful 26):

* Supports an 80% reduction in carbon emissions by 2050
* Supports 40 miles-per-gallon fuel efficiency standards by 2017
* Wants the US to use 20% renewable energy by 2020
* Opposes offshore drilling or drilling for oil in the Arctic
(ANWR)
* Take Big Oil’s $2 billion dollar tax breaks to pay for offshore
wind farms
* Ensured protection of 100% of the coastline in his home state
* Wrote a plan to exchange debt-relief for rainforest protection
* Believes polluters should pay Superfund fees to clean up their
toxic waste
* Wants the US to take a stronger stance to end commercial whaling

Best of all, he’s got the voting record to back all of this up. Biden
has said his primary concern has been energy independence, but he’s
not willing to cut corners to get there. *cough*drilling*cough*

I, for one, am sold.

RW, what a JOKE.

Of Coarse you are sold. I'm willing to bet you've never even thought
about why you'd vote any other way.

I'm more interested in how Joe Biden has different positions than
Obama. Notice how those Leftist scores start to "Paint" a pretty good
picture. That "Leftist" meter for Obama doesn't move much.

What does this say about his ideology? Now that he's trying to Align
as a "Centrist" does this mean his "Scores are now closer to McCains
and the rest of the Conservatives in America? or does it make him a
Self-Serving politician that will do anything to WIN?

CP,

I think this might be the RW gauge of liberal greenie
environmentalism. Heck I thought I saw Joe Biden driving away in a big
full size Ford F series truck from his home the other night and
replied to reporters that he was "not the guy" for the VP slot. Maybe
this was a new hybrid version that they have yet to release or maybe
it was just more do as I say environmental liberalism from another
Democrat.

Frug,
And I'm sure Joe Biden isn't aware that Delaware has the Worst Water
Quality in the Nation. One reason they protect their coastline is
because of all the garbage that is buried inland there from New
Jersey. They have the highest concentrations of toxic waste and you
only get this from industrial dumpings leaching in the ground water
supplies. I'm against Superfund cleanups being charged to companies.
It is a State issue in that they took on the waste in order to make a
buck. Why should tax payers and companies be held accountable after
the fact?

Off-shore Wind-Mill Farm. I wonder how he can square this with the
numbers. To me energy is energy, therefore wouldn't you look at the
Total Costs and then make an informed investment decision?

These jokers don't get it. We don't have enough land in order to
produce 20% of our Energy by Wind or any other Renewables. No matter
what choice is made it seems that it will take 3-5 years before the
payback happens. It would be cool to see a real Cost Benefit Analysis
of the Energy Sources and then this should drive our investment
decisions. 90% of our Nations Energy comes from Coal that is already
our own Natural Resource. If more than 20% of the public shifts
towards Hydrogen Fuel Cells, then the one thing to be aware of as an
investor is that these batteries are made with a lot of Platnium.
This will cause the price of this precious metal to rise way out of
control as it comes into high demand. I've looked at what it would
cost to "Disconnect" from the Power Grid. For my 2,500sqfoot home, I
need about 3000KW and the cost to produce this with a Fuel Cell is
around $65,000 in today's prices. Considering that Coal fired
Electricity is around .10/kwh it will be a long time before anyone
seriously switches. I've figured that even at around $3K per year in
coal based electricity, I'd have to use that fuel cell for almost 20+
years to break even on my money. But if I take that $65K and invest
into any type of energy fund, then the dividends I earn can reduce my
current bills. The same money then pays me back in 3-7 years time
plus pays the bills.

Same goes for all those Windmills. Electricity storage has several
drawbacks for storage of electrons. Since those same environmental
whackos are so against off shore drilling and such they can't even
take the time to look at that these huge industrial batteries that are
used in such operations are bad news for the environment and far worse
than any "Carbon Emissions" produced from burning Fossil Fuels.
