Dennis,
Are you observing Ramadan this year?

Not sure. Considering it. But the no liquids during the day is tough
on a hot day on the golf course.

Muslims do not smoke. They do not have sex during the day.

During the Fast of Ramadan strict restraints are placed on the daily
lives of Muslims. They are not allowed to eat or drink during the
daylight hours. Smoking and sexual relations are also forbidden during
fasting. At the end of the day the fast is broken with prayer and a
meal called the iftar. In the evening following the iftar it is
customary for Muslims to go out visiting family and friends. The fast
is resumed the next morning.

I've often thought about participating in Ramadan for better clarity,
health, weight loss, etc. Last year, we made attempts to fast one day a
week - it worked briefly.

What I cannot get past, is not being able to drink water throughout the day.
I guess I could always do a modified version since I'm not trying to impress
Ra.

Yes. There is a schedule (if you will) of the times of sunrise/sunset
for the entire month. Typically, one minute difference each day for
both the morning/evening.
Oftentimes, Muslims will meet at a mosque or someone's home for the
evening meal. I attended one at a restaurant in Louisville.

The evidence of devotion for your faith is inspiring in observing
Ramadan. I read where fasting is meant to teach the person patience
and humility........and where Ramadan is a time to fast for the sake
of God, and to offer even more prayer than usual. Also involved in
Ramadan are asking forgiveness for the sins of the past, asking for
guidance in the future, and asking for help with refraining from every
day evils and trying to purify oneself through self-restraint and good
deeds.

Thanks for sharing with us.
