Thanks for this information.

As wccanard mentioned in the other discussion, it looks like a DNS
problem: "www.littlegolem.net" cannot be resolved to an ip address.

Thanks for the information. I hope you can solve the problem soon!

There is an interesting side effect when LG is down: the tasuki
monster can be thrown down very easily from his title. Presently
tasuki has become the new monster, Ray Garrisson has disappeared! -

the "tasuki" monster rating is here: "http://golem.tasuki.org/"

You can also hide your own statistics, now.
Nobody knows that I've got a poor monster score, far below 800, until
LG is back up again. (; Which will happen soon, I hope ;)

Haha, yeah, I thought it might create some problems - but it's erasing
the names too... which means the people no longer get displayed and so
can't be automatically updated >.<

Anyway, I corrected the part which checks for whether we got the page
- it will not update on timeout anymore.

I hope my time isn't running while LG is down :)

It has been two days now.
If time is running in the meantime, it only means that after 10 more
days have passed some people will lose their games. But not a
significant number of people.
In any case, lets enjoy the unexpectied vacation and spend our time on
some potentially more important activities.

This shouldn't be a problem, because the vacation days were reset.
So everyone has at least 20 vacation days...

hmm maybe its just because of my english le'ts say it like this:

there was an accident with the times, after this accident, everyone
got >= 20 vacation days.

Your English and your Math are very similar ;)

I guess yper and me think it was rather "max(20) = 20" instead of your
" >= 20 ".
And those running at the low time limits might have already used up
some of those vacation days.

As Richard is aware of the current downtime, I'm sure he will reset
the system to a state similar to Nov 26, if required.

... and if he gets access himself ...
(I imagine littlegolem running silently, protected by a broken DNS
server, doing nothing but decreasing vacation days, finishing games by
time, and running GoE rounds without participants. No access = no
backup ;)

"...so everyone has at least 20 vacation days..."

I know someone who got 30 vacation days at the end of October (they
were a member) and have now lost 29 of them ;-) They're holding up the
dots and boxes championship. I just pray that Richard doesn't give him
30 more!

I do not think it is a good idea to keep resetting vacation days at
the end of the year. If it is reset again, some players will be able
to avoid making any move for three whole months (by the end of January
2009). That would bother me.

www.iggamecenter.com

Better server for games (but there are no tournaments).

Dear metzgerism,
iggamecenter is a fine game site. But better than golem? ... No way! You are entitled to your opinion of course, but posting this to golem mail list is at least, hm, not polite.

Golem is down, Batman is dying and i'm not feeling very well lately :)

First of all, let's see if we all "avoid making any move" for a long
time.
Everything else will bother me less.

If I interpret whois.net info correctly:
--
domain: littlegolem.net
reg_created: 2002-02-25 14:50:37
expires: 2010-02-25 14:50:37
created: 2002-02-25 20:50:39
changed: 2007-09-09 10:10:00
ns0: server1.solutions.cz
--
... my fear that Richard might need money to pay for the domain name
seems wrong.

It rather seems the provider http://www.solutions.cz is dead (or
lifeless...)

How come the FAQ doesn't say when the server is coming back up? That's
the most frequently asked question of all at the minute

wccanard (checking every 30 minutes or so :-/ )

Indeed, and working well.

BTW, Richard, considering some of the discussion during the downtime,
now would be a good time for me to suggest something that, for a long
time, I have felt is missing from LG.

In particular, when a tournament is held up by a player who has
stopped playing or who is truly on vacation, if one clicks the user's
"info" link, it DOES say "On vacation," but I don't see the remaining
number of vacation days for the user anywhere. That would be nice for
getting some idea of when delayed tournaments may end.

In addition, it would be nice to know if that vacation time was
requested via the "vacation" link, or is just being used up by not
having taken further turns in any games.

Thanks!

It sure would be nice, yes.

The vacation link isn't to ask for vacation, it's just to show what
days you've already used. AFAIK, all vacation is taken by timing out.

Speaking of which, RICHARD, with this last outage, my days seem to
have been reset to 20. I'm not going to use them, but I should have
30, I think.

Oops! Must have been thinking of DGS, instead, on that part. Thanks
for the correction.
