CALL TO ACTION!
Exciting news! Last week
Representative Raul Grijalva (AZ-7) introduced HR 2076, The Border Security and
Responsibility Act of 2009.
The purpose of this bill is to restore the rule of law to the borderlands,
protect communities, federal lands (such as national parks), and wildlife
habitat from the destructive impacts of the border wall. To date, walls
have been built across more than 600 miles of our shared international border
with Mexico.
These divisive barriers have separated families, divided borderland
communities, caused damaging floods, erosion, destroyed fragile habitat, and
threatened the survival of wildlife dependent upon migration.
Call your representative today
and urge her or him to support House Bill 2076,
The Border Security and Responsibility Act of 2009. Currently, dozens of
concerned citizens from across the country are in Washington, D.C.
to build support for Rep. Grijalva's bill. Many more grassroots advocates
from across the country will be
calling in - but U.S. Representatives form Illinois
need to hear from you.
If you don't know who your Representative is go to http://www.congress.org/ and type in your zip code to find out.
When you call, ask to speak with the foreign policy aide. If he or she is unavailable, please leave the following message on his or her voicemail:
"My name is _____. I live in (city neighborhood or town). I am calling to ask Rep. _________ to co-sponsor the Border Security and Responsibility Act of 2009 (H.R. 2076), a bill recently introduced by Rep. Grijalva. This bill will help address and prevent the harm caused by border walls to communities and natural resources, including the network of congressionally protected federal lands along the border. The border wall has caused significant damage to communities, water quality, and wildlife habitat. I believe that Congress needs to act to address these problems that the wall has created. This act would require federal authorities to work cooperatively and transparently with local, state, and tribal leaders to devise a border security strategy that is humane, ecologically-sound, fair, and effective. Can I count on Rep. __________ to co-sponsor H.R. 2076? Please let me know. My number is ___________."
Please let us know what you hear back from your Members of Congress!
