Progress by Passover Campaign: Your Voice, Our Community, Reforming Immigration in America

Today, Thursday, April 2nd, JCUA leaders, staff and other campaign sponsors are in Washington, D.C. to deliver thousands of Progress by Pesach petition signatures that expose the harm immigration raids have caused to our communities and stress the urgency of passing comprehensive immigration reform.

The Jewish leaders participating at the press conference today represent a coalition of 13 national Jewish agencies and more than a dozen local Jewish organizations. In addition, rabbis from all four major streams of Judaism, including JCUA board members Rabbi Capers Funnye, Jr. and Rabbi Asher Lopatin, will speak on the Jewish values and history which motivated the community’s call to “Protect the Stranger.”

Following the press conference, we will participate in a White House meeting with key Obama aides and 24 representatives of the other sponsoring Jewish organizations to convey the Progress by Pesach message. Jane Ramsey, JCUA’s Executive Director will speak on the principles and values needed for a just and compassionate immigration system.

The national push and organizing of communities of all backgrounds and faith traditions have already made a difference. We are encouraged to hear the recent, positive remarks from the administration on immigration reform and a shifting policy on raids.

We Need Your Help Today

Send a strong message to the administration that the Jewish community across the country is supporting the Progress by Pesach message:

Call the White House today and demand an immediate end to ICE raids and the enactment of FAIR, JUST, and COMPREHENSIVE immigration reform legislation during the first 100 days of the Obama administration (Jan. 20 May 1, 2009)!

202.456.1111

9 a.m. - 3 p.m. CST

(You may initially be placed on hold, but it will be well worth your time. When your call is put through the operators will hear and feel the commitment in your voice.)

We are less than a week away from celebrating Passover, also known as the holiday of freedom, which coincides with the first 100 days of the new administration. We thank you for remembering the significance of the words in the Hagaddah "B'chol dor vador chayav adam lir'ot et atzmo k'ilu hu hatza mimitzrayim. In all generations it is the duty of man to consider himself as if he had come forth from Egypt." You have remembered the pain and suffering of our oppression and understand the value of freedom. Your signatures and your voices are making meaningful impact in the call for justice.

Happy Passover,

Jane Ramsey, Tom Walsh, Irene Lehrer Sandalow
