Haymarket Books May Day Celebration !

Friday, May 1st - 6pm    Casa Aztlán - 1831 S. Racine

May Day is International Workers' Day, celebrating the struggles of working people around the world, past and present. It represents the fight for a society which prioritizes meeting people's needs, not making profits, and which is run by workers, not bankers. Join other workers and activists from around Chicago as we celebrate our struggle with speeches from some of the leaders of today's movements, music, and refreshment. Workers of the world unite, you have nothing to lose but your chains!

 

Featured speakers:

Tariq Ali - Internationally reknown novelist, historian & socialist; author of The Clash of Fundamentalisms and Bush in    Babylon, editor of the New Left Review

· Raul Flores - Shop steward and leader of successful factory occupation at Republic Windows & Doors

· Fernando Huerta - organizer in the Chicago Workers Collaborative, leader of protests against no-match letter firings at Wheatland Tube last spring 

· Jorge Mujica - syndicated columnist of México de Norte, member of March 10th May Day march planning committee

· Sharon Smith - Socialist and author of Subterranean Fire: A History of Working Class Radicalism in the United States

· Martin Unzueta - Chicago Workers Collaborative organizer
