National Day Of Action Against Wells Fargo
Protest Job Loss, Forclosures and Racist Lending Practices
When: Tuesday, June 23 at 12 noon
Where: Wells Fargo Home Mortgage at 511 W. North Ave. (Near Sedgwick Brown Line Stop)
What: Action Against Wells Fargo
Wells Fargo, a receipient of $25 billion in bailout funds, has cut off financing to Quad City Die Casting, throwing over 100 out of work. This is a devestating loss to the workers, but the effect ripples out. It's a loss of over $6.4 million a year in lost wages and tax revenue to our community.
Wells Fargo is also under fire for targeting African American borrowers for high-rate sub-prime mortgages in Baltimore, where city officials have sued the bank, and for attempting to force the liquidation of men’s suit maker Hartmarx, an outcome that would destroy jobs of some 4,000 employees.
Protests against Wells fargo are picking up steam, and Tuesday's action is part of a National Day of Action targeting the bank in over a dozen cities. Come send a message to Wells Fargo: "Stop Being A Roadblock to Economic Recovery!"
