NAFRATON KE DAUR MEIN

 

In the background of the terrorist attacks on Mumbai, Lokayat is organizing a two-day program of film screenings titled NAFRATON KE DAUR MEIN (IN THE TIMES OF HATRED) to condemn all forms of terrorism.

 

Venue:       Lokayat Hall, opp. Syndicate Bank, Law College Road, Near Nal Stop, Pune.

Dates:         January 10 – 11, 2009 (Saturday – Sunday)

Day 1: Saturday, January 10

 

1. Ram Ke Naam:

Director Anand Patwardhan Duration 75 mins

 

On the motivations behind the VHP led campaign to destroy the Babri Masjid, which has led to religious riots in which thousands have died; and the efforts of secular Indians - many of whom are Hindus - to combat the religious intolerance and hatred that has seized India in the name of religion.

2. Ayodhya Se Varanasi Tak: Shanti ke liye prarthana:

Director Suma Josson Duration 60 mins

 

The film interviews priests of important temples in Ayodhya who criticize the demolition of Babri Masjid and the growth of communalism and gives historical facts of how Hindus and Muslims have lived in peace and harmony in India for the last many hundreds of years

 

3. Junoon Ke Badte Kadam

Director Gauhar Raza  Duration 33 mins

 

On the state backed communal riots in Gujarat of 2002. It explores the growing communal character of India nurtured and encouraged by powerful players resulting in a systematic demolition of India's secular character.

 

4. Chale Chalo

A moving 5 minute music video calling for unity and peace.

4. Rocks, Paper, Missiles 

Film by Paper Tiger TV (USA)  Duration 17 mins

 

Explores the basis and history of the conflict in Palestine/Israel: Why is Israel the largest recipient of US aid in the world? Why are Palestinians throwing ROCKS at Israeli soldiers armed with bullets and MISSILES?

 

5. Children of Iraq  

Film by "Filmmakers Against War, UK"       Duration 10 mins

 

This film was shot in 2004 in Iraq, and graphically brings out the deathly impact of the US invasion of Iraq on Iraqi children.
