Dear Friends,

In one of recent news i read the pain shown by our President of India that what role our media is playing and how it is affecting our society when we get up in the morning we have one or the other bad news in the newspaper covering the front page almost every day same thing is happening every day on various media channels they are exposing one or the other issues there are some good things and well some bad things i do not want to go deep into this discussion but i feel it shows our basic mentality how viewers are percieved by these media people .

Recently i was sitting with a very prominent media personality and discussing with him why media is projecting negative news as the most important also he told me that it is the demand of todays people so u can not help it whatever people demand we make similar programes.

With this in mind we a group of friends are interested in setting up a media channel which will make & telecast programes related to the positive news ,creative ideas ,innovative thoughts with entrepeneurial bent of mind and are looking for people who can partner with us as volunteers , associates , management people ,subscribers ,investors as well as programers apart from content providers and research team .

We also plan to raise various issues and make programes on thse issues to provide to various other broadcasters like BBC , CNN , STAR ,NDTV, IBN , JANMAT Etc

Let me make one thing clear to u that we are not going to own this media channel it will be run by a professional team we are just going to be the initial planners for this and then it will be handed over to the team.

We have set up a website which is very vague at this moment but shortly will be giving it a more professional look

Kindly do write to  us as how can u and would u like to be a part of it at  glo...@globalmedia.in .

Regards

R K Atri

Hi Mr. Atri,

The plan is great, but as you already know the issues with 24 hour news channels.. and the kind of stuff they end up presenting!

I am sure you've thought through this.. but would like to clarify(as this project interests me a lot) that it would be appropriate to first set up a content production house, and then provide this content in the form of a weekly/daily programme to the existing channels.. (news channels and others like sanskar and aastha are also potential partners) once we reach the stage of setting up a channel.. (which also means we get our fixed and running costs in place) we would be a full fledged team of content providers from all corners of the country/world! probably we can invite freelancers to do stories for the channel and give them the approrpriate credit... it can lead to volunteerism of another kind!

and finally.. other than the good news from across the country (as goodnewsindia.. a website does..) we can also use television as a very prominent medium for propagating messages about social activism.. and spreading useful information regarding RTI/Consumer issues.. etc. basically.. a national news/media cum information channel!

Great wishes!!

Regards,

Ankur

Dear Friends,
I would like to share a small event related to this, which shows that
even the very prominent media personality and ofcourse the end workers
in media who are the actuall workers who gather the information what
they say as " We want!! ", have a predetermined mentality. The Event
is when i was a student of patna science college, which is considered
to be best college of one time one of the best universities(Patna
university). Me and my two freinds were sitting outside our department
before classes and then there comes a team of a news channel (i won't
put the name ). I dont know what they were looking for but definetely
something what "we want!" to see. they saw us and came to us and there
very first question was
" are you people satisfied with your college? "
we said yes in a chorous.
then
do classes go regularly?
we said yes.
are teachers taking there classes properly?
and so on.......
and our reply was same positive for there all questions.
and after asking us these 4-5 questions they looked towards each other
in a way which clearly shows that they really had a bad starting.
since its not our answers that they were looking for. but being a
student who had 100% attendence at that time we spoke the truth. they
didn't note our comments no shooting nothing.
next day the same channel showed about our college and they show
interviews of few students from our college. this was obviously what
"we wanted" to see and ofcourse we don't know what we want!. what they
showed was that students were complaining regarding everything. from
classes to faculty. course to timings. and i dont think most of them
were true in what they said that time ofcourse they appered there
because they spoke what "we want!!!" to listen.
so finally i would like to say that this " what we want " excuse is
very absurd. what they show is only something which can give them i
different look and ofcourse more money.
same news can be given a positive look also. but negative gets more
eyes or what, i dont know. atleast we can try for changing this
attitude. and i hope this idea is a great step towards that.

Dear Mr Atri,

Before making my point i would breifly like to introduce myself. I have
just completed my masters from Jamia Mass communication research
center. Course that i did is only one of its kind in India, Development
Communication. I have just returned from workshop by International
Committee of Red Cross. Topic of the workshop was "Reporting armed
conflict" media debates its role. There was distinguished panel of
editors and senior media professionals. Siddhart Vardarajan, B G
Verghese, A G Noorani, Amar Chandel, Saeed Naqvi, Satish Jacob to name
a few. Speakers and participants were in consensus, that with increase
in number of channels the quality has definitely gone down. With the
emergence of 24 hours news channel, news or breaking news have become
business. What is significant and should be kept in mind is that media
or news channels are owned by businessmen, sole motive being profit.
All this has led to deterrioration in the quality of news.

It has also made us realise the enormous potential of media that was
untapped for long. My suggestion to the group, moderators in particular
is that a sub group should be made of media professionals.
