Dear Didi,

what is thought-purification : is it reading spiritual books instead of English novel or is it feeling for others' problem. one who reads spiritual literature, but does nothing to lessen
others' problem and the other one, who works for others as much as possible: whose thoughts r purer, the former's or the latter's . one who donates money to temples (be it of Sai Baba , or  Tirupati) or one who donates money to help the needy - which of the two r spiritually more elevated, whose thoughts r purer. one who spends 2 hours in a temple or one who spends 2 hours in teaching the poor children - who is worshipping God more.

and how can thought-purification happen: by distributing good thoughts in form of books or by imbibing them in our character so much that our very personality radiates such thoughts to everyone around us.
So many books have been written: Gita, Ramayana and so on - how many people got purified by reading them ? Even Ravana was a scholar and well-learned in 4 Vedas : did knowledge of Vedas purify his/her thoughts ? The truth is, we don't know the meaning of purity of thought -  a pure person is one who may not go to temples or read Gita/Vedas, but who is free from anger, lust and pride and who feels for others the same way he/she feels for himself/herself. Compassion and Equanimity r the traits of pure persons and not rotating beads, chanting verses of Gita/Vedas or talking about high things and metaphysics.

In this country, in last 2000 years, our scholarly countrymen had time to do discussions for more than 7 days at a stretch on intricate metaphysics of God, soul, dwaita, adwaita and so on, but they had no time to organize movement against untouchability, purdah and other ills: were these people spiritual ? Not all.  Indeed, one who can see God in stone-idols, but not in human beings, is at the lowest rung of the ladder of spirituality: such  a one knows not even ABC of spirituality  - spirituality means realising  (first intellectually and then experientially) that  "Sarva Khalvidam Brahma" (All is Brahma) that the same Consciousness is present in everyone and that Consciousness is our real nature rather than body and mind . though we have many great Self-Realised saints, our society is not spiritual at all : it is suffering from "bogus spirituality" since millenia - a spiritual society can't accept any injustice meted to one just due to his/her birth (caste-system) . The last 2000 history of India is one of individualism : individual happiness, individual sorrow, individual salvation , society never existed in India : we were never a nation, but a crowd, because each one was busy in his/her happiness. No wonder,  a handful foreign invaders could ensalve a society of crores for centuries because each one was a separate individual, unconnected with the other and a handful invaders were enough for one individual at one time.

so, to sum up: what we do for the society is the sole criteria to judge how much thought-purity we have and not reading spiritual books, chanting mantras and so on .

I myself feel enormous moral pressure over the issue of child-labor : from USA, I can do nothing except sending some money to some children for education. If it is too trouble-some, you may give up the case of 4 children working in MT shop at IIT Kanpur (still please try once more to see if we can do something): i can send 200$  per month with help from some friends if living can be arranged for them. At least, we should support Nankari child.

What a shame that a country whose 10-crores children r child-labor, is facing multi-arabs scams every year ? And i would add one thing (which is not criticism, but my feelings): if Gayatri Pariwar people believe so much in thought-purification through distribution of books of Sriram Sharma Acharya,  here is a wonderful criteria - they should not procreate their own children due to true concern for the humanity and crores of child-labor in India and instead adopt  a child-labor as their God-child and raise him/her as they would have raised their biological children: if they  can do so, then they have achieved thought-purity, otherwise they r  yet  very far  from the state of thought-purity. As a teenager, when I was an atheist and never went to any temple nor read any spiritual book, I was fully interested to follow this ideal: don't procreate, earn lakhs and adopt hundreds of orphans as God-child and raise them as own child rathern than begetting so-called own child.

What a wonder that what an atheist teenage could feel, so many theists and "spiritual" people don't feel even after so much "thought-purification" through reading so many books. I would say that I imbibed the teachings of Sriram Sharma Achrya more intensely without reading his books, more than  Gayatri Pariwar brethren, who r not able to understand that adopting God-child rather than procreating own child would please Sriram Sharma Ji more because it is more humane and spiritual and in the interests of the humanity. It may seem a bit strange, but I m so sure of the humanity behind this ideal, that I will propagate this whole life in the society and will consider this as a parameter to judge how much spiritual consciousness a householder has.

woe to this child-labor problem! let us not beget our own child and adopt a child-labor or orphan as our God-child - this is true humanity and spirituality!
regards,
Gopal
