Lets be aware of this joke that times of india is playing with the people of our country.

Here is a video called "I want my father back" on the farmer suicides in Vidarbha...   How the whole Globalisation, Free trade is destroying the agriculture in India.. the reality behind our Agricultural policy, corporate farming and Free Retail trade....

For those who still are enthused by the Lead-India (to Hell) campaign by ToI ...  try to relate what they are doing with what is shown in that video...     A person educated at Harward after this program.. how is she/he going to "lead india" ? ...   Shahrukh Khan, Sunil Mittal are the people who were left to be told to Indians how to become a "public leader" !!..

Idiotic, absurd, commercial venture, publicity gimmic,  an offence to the 80% of india's poor.. thats how I'll describe the campaign.

Hi all,
Would like to welcome your comments on the Lead India Program.
On the outset it looks like another commercial venture by Times of India similar to the one when 7/11 Mumbai Blasts happened.

The following are 2 points in the Terms and Conditions to be signed/accepted by the participants

1) The Times of India shall bear the Cost of Travel, Cost of Living in Boston-USA and the tution fees for the Leadership Development Programme at the John. F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard for the Lead India Final Winner. The Lead India Final Winner shall have to confirm to any eligibility conditions/ US visa regulations and any other statutory requirements as may be applicable. In case the Lead India Final Winner is unable to meet any of the statutory requirements as set by the University of Harvard or US Government or if he/she is unable to undertake the course as per the schedule decided by BCCL, his/her candidature/reward for this Leadership Develop Programme shall be forfeited. This Leadership Development Programme cannot be exchanged for its value in cash.

2) BCCL shall make available a corpus of Rs 50 Lacs to fund a public service project recommended by the Lead India Final Winner. This choice of this project shall be subject to approval by BCCL before any aspect of the same is executed or any funds are released for the same.  BCCL shall fund this project through Times Foundation. Times Foundation shall release the funds at appropriate intervals against submission of bills for actual expenses incurred for executing the project. The decision of Times Foundation in approving or declining any payment shall be final and binding on the Lead India Final Winner. In case the project progress does not meet the deadlines and benchmarks decided by BCCL, the funding for the same shall be irrevocably terminated

So the winner basically gets to go to US to Study and then probably he may get a chance to do something through some project in India.

Please mail back with your comments

cheers

I don't see the joke. I will appreciate if you enlighten me.
Dear brother,  as you love our country so does times of India, so does Shahrukh Khan and Sunil Mittal . (I am not in any way related to TOI)  Give up the narrow point of view that I am right, I am doing good selflessly and everybody else has hidden motives if they try to do something good for the country. A man with the ego that he loves the country most can only harm the country.
In a vast country like India, there are millions of ways to do something for the country out of love. You will argue that what TOI is doing is not love but this is all about business. I would like to ask you, whats wrong in doing good though a business. Why do you  think that what is good for them, can not be good for country.
I invite all BM leaders to grab this opportunity. I am sure we have many competent leaders.

Regards
Ranjan

I dont see any point in this whole campaign.

Mahatma Phule,Gandhi, Ambedkar did not need TOI to do there work.Leaders who can lead India need not be searched, they would rise on there own.Sun does not need anyone's propaganda to tell that it has risen.

And what do you think is their intention?  If by now collective actions would have solved issues, and people like us or people who think on similar lines could have done what they _intended_ to do, we would prolly never be having this discussion today. Leadership can definitely _improve_ things if not change _ALL_of them. I wish there were more people who understood and worked upon problems. But whining doesnt get you anywhere. The solution needs to be worked on more than anything. However, beliefs like people get the govt they deserve just goes on to prove that the kind of people we see in the govt are those kinds that are among us today. Without those kind of people, we would never get to see the sort of amusement OUR govt provides. As for working collectively, awareness is the key and how does it come? I would say their advertising surely catches ones eye. No matter how crap the whole program might sound. Its consumerist you see? I am sure they're playing with a hell lot of money in it. Leadership of the _right_ kind will surely give direction. If people take it up seriously and fight for it.

It is not just about doing something. It is also important to understand the intention of TOI, as why it is doing so. What message it wants to convey to society? Do we need leadership actions or we need collective actions for social problems? The campaign definitely says solution lies in leadership, which I do not agree, even if the campaign is with honest intention. It is being said that people get the leaders they deserve. So it should make us think where the work is needed. It is not in throwing some leadership on people but more importantly working in society and finding collectively the solution and contributing our bit in solution.

Thats an extremist point of view. Try doing something of the sort that they ARE trying to do. I've seen their ads and stuff. Altho they surely have a market agenda and monetary profits involved in it, they are doing something. And I wouldnt pick at it unless they at least BEGAN doing what they want to do. I would accept criticism if they failed.

And please Abhijit, when trying to make a point, come across clearly.

What does "  A person educated at Harward after this program.. how is she/he going to "lead india" ? ...   Shahrukh Khan, Sunil Mittal are the people who were left to be told to Indians how to become a "public leader" !!.." <<< mean exactly???

I love reality shows, especially Indian Idol & Sa Ra Ga Ma Pa, it is amazing to see boys and girls from remote places lof Jarkhand, UP, Bihar become darling of masses. Poonam Yadav could never have imagined to become star, survival was her big concern, thanks to reality show she has become inspiration for hundreds of other Poonam Yadavs.

If same format will be replicated by Indiatimes am sure we will see Poonam Yadavs in politics too, I firmly believe Indians have only two ideologies they are ideology of "DOwors" and ideology of "TALKERS".

No good Vikram...really no good.

The totally irrational system of governance we have inherited, shall not allow you to do good, and its like throwing a bucket full of sugar into the sea.

No matter how good a human being, and hence, leader, *you* are....

Realization struck me after six long years..of looking within...and without. Better late, than never though.
