Session 2:

VISION OF BHARAT UDAY MISSION

Gopalkrishna from the policy research team presented the vision of Bharat Uday Mission. He spoke about our great leaders who destroyed the invincible British Empire during freedom struggle. Bharat Uday Mission will destroy the empire of poverty, illiteracy and corruption created by our politicians. We need idealism and optimism in this struggle. Idealism will always keep our society as our top priority and optimism will always motivate us to fight for our goal

INDIA: THE RISE OF A GREAT NATION!

Presentation by Administration Team

Ram Ji Tripath presented the overview of progress of national teams where the structure of BM management was also explained. The progress made by the Administration Team in recent days were highlighted which includes:

  1. National Meet
  2. Initiation of Constitution Drafting Process.

Other activities:

Propagation, Policy Research and website teams are working hard and will produce results by August 2006.

Presentation by Chapters

One member from each chapter presented the activity and major projects done till date.15 chapters participated in the presentation. Chapters like Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kanpur and Pune gave detail about the projects completed and which are in pipe line while other chapters explained the various projects they have initiated.

All the PowerPoint presentation given by the chapters will be uploaded in the file section of Yahoo main group.

Registration of Bhumi:

Hyderabad chapter registered a NGO without informing Central Teams and any other chapters. General body felt that it was wrong. A detailed and open discussion about the issue was organized and at the end Hyderabad chapter of Bharat Uday Mission accepted its mistake and apologized for the same and submitted BHUMI (a NGO ) to general body.

The Administration team suggested that status of BHUMI will be resolved by online/offline discussion involving general body.

Day one concluded with the National Anthem.

DAY TWO

Day two started with the National Anthem.

Session 3:

Future Action Plan

Everybody feels that we need a registered identity for our projects and for resource management. As we are growing very fast we must have some identity that can allow us to collect funds and create brand image in the society. It is clear to everybody that we are (definitely) going to register ourselves as a political party after 2-3 years. The Moderator proposed it and the General Body accepted it by a voice-vote. For the time being we need some temporary arrangement to keep track of our projects.

So, the General Body has a tough but very valid question if we should register ourselves as political party or as an NGO or both.

Whether we register

  1. First we register as an NGO then as a political party after 2-3 years
  2. We register only as a political party (Socio-political) through which the social work will be done.
  3. Both an NGO as well as a political party simultaneously.

We are herewith presenting important ideas, which were discussed in the meeting.

NGO

Advantages:

    1. We can work with other NGOs.
    2. People generally accept NGOs as a helping organization i.e. society accepts NGOs easily.
    3. We can get help from the government for our activities.
    4. We can convert NGO into a political party after doing a lot of ground work.
    5. We can get popularity while working as an NGO.
    6. Fund-raising will be easier.

Disadvantages:

    1. Registering as an NGO is against our ideology as we mentioned on our website from the very beginning that we aim to be an IDEAL POLITICAL PARTY.
    2. We cannot fight elections.
    3. It may be difficult to convert NGO into a political party later as some members may oppose it later.
    4. Members of other political parties may join us and create groupism later.
    5. Public may not accept us as political party later.

Political Party (Socio-Political)

Advantages:

    1. Much closer to our ideology
    2. We must follow our own path and take the challenge to change the concept of a political party by creating an ideal political party, which will be involved in social service and politics both.
    3. We need leaders not sevaks and political party will give us leaders as per expectations
    4. We will have people with clear vision who will contribute and can be trusted for the long haul.
    5. We will have clear identity from the very beginning.
    6. We can collect funds.

Disadvantages:

    1. People do not trust political parties.
    2. We will get resistance from other political parties.
    3. People will not donate funds to us easily.
    4. Government employees will have to leave Bharat Uday Mission.
    5. Anti social elements may join us to fulfill their selfish goals.

Political Party + NGO

Suggestions came that we should register both as an NGO and as a political party so that we can get the advantage of both. The Moderator pointed out that it may bring disadvantages of both and management may become complex.

Voting and Results:

After discussion of all these points moderator called for voting upon the above (1st, 2nd and 3rd ) options, one representative from each chapter participated in voting and the results were :-

1st (NGO)          3 Votes

2nd (Political)    1 Vote

3rd (Both)          8 Votes

So the General Body recommended to register Bharat Uday Mission both as an NGO and as a political party.

Note: Arguments presented here are neither intensive nor exhaustive.

Session 4:

A) Suggestions for Constitution Drafting Process:

  1. Convener (of constituent assembly and drafting committee) should be the person who gets highest "YES" vote.
  2. One Co-convener should be the person who gets second highest "YES" Vote. One Co-convener will be nominated by convener.
  3. Drafting committee will be empowered to call for volunteers to help in its work. Convener and Co-conveners will be responsible for making comprehensive criteria for selection of volunteers. Volunteers can be removed by convener (After consultation with co -conveners) in case, volunteers don't perform or they are not required. Volunteers will not have any voting right.
  4. Constituent assembly members should meet once in a month or so at some place to discuss and finalize things. Place and Date must be chosen by consensus. Concept of Quorum etc will be developed by drafting committee. Only constituent assembly members will be allowed to attend such meeting i.e. they can not nominate their representative.

Administration Team and BM management happily accepted all suggestions and modified drafting process will be mailed to everybody soon.
